With better WS, Fearless, adding 2 WC points to your pool and being able to nominate him as a warlord that won't stay dead, is Anval Thawn now worth his 35 point premium as an upgrade?

I'll take that as a 'no'. Lol.

I missed this thread, but actually, I'd say yes. In a battle-forged army he's super-scoring as well, so you can 'bank' a lot of VP with him (STW and up to 3 for an objective).

The extra WC is nice too. I'm not sure what value people are assigning to WC at this point, but doubling the powers the squad has access to, and the extra WC, and the fact you can cast 2 a turn (or one and Force) is pretty cool.

The only downside is you can't put him in a Paladin squad...

As he doesn't have BoP and his entry specifically states ML2, I would take that to mean that his WC is an addition to the squad's, so could cast all 3 in a turn. Or is that what you meant?

Good question. I assumed that as he was a part if the squad, rather than an an attachment to it, the squad has BoP so with Thawn would be a Brotherhood with 2WC. That was what I meant by saying they got one extra power.

Might be worth a look in YMDC though, just to see if there is a consensus.

I guess Mordrak would also be affected by this

I think so, as again he's not an IC. I looked at YMDC, and the conclusion was, the character acts as Justicar in a squad without one/if he is an upgrade to one. So Thawn and Modrak both count as the Justicar for the purposes of BoP.

Eh. He's a fun choice but he still suffers from the things he always has. He's a 75 point upgrade that only has one wound. If he could roll on powers then he'd be great. As he is I'd say he's not terribly competitive. A naked squad with his upgrade is already 275. That's the same price as a naked 5 man paladin squad which I'd say is considerably more effective considering possible gear upgrades.

As I said above, though, he can 'secure' a good number of VP, and this is the real value. Cost of the squad aside, you can have an almost-eternal Super-scoring Warlord. He's not going to have a place in every list, but there is potential here, simply by dint of being unkillable.
