The spell familiar allows you to re-roll failed psychic tests. How does that work in this edition? Does that mean re-rolling all the warp charges if you fail, or does it mean only re-rolling the individual warp charges that failed? I think it is the former, but wanted to get everyone's thoughts on this.

I'm not sure why people think it doesn't work. The psychic test is when you pick the # of dice you are going to roll to pull off the power. If you don't get enough passes, then reroll all the dice you just rolled. The wording of spell familiar doesn't say "pick and choose which ones to roll".

I disagree, the spell familiar says (page 67 of the CSM codex):
[...] A model with a spell familiar may re-roll failed Psychic tests.[...]
The Psychic phase says (page 24 BRB):
[...] To manifest a psychic power you will need to declare a target (if the power in question requires a target) and make a Psychic test [...]
The General Principles on Dice say (page 11 BRB):
[...] if you reroll a 2D6 or 3D6 roll, you must re-roll all of the dice, not just some of them, unless the rules specify otherwise. [...]
Seems pretty clear to me.

Yup, this is how it works. The FAQs are out and nothing related to the Spell Familiar was addressed

I agree. Rerolling a psychic test means rerolling failure. Even if you succeeded in generating some Warp Charges, they are not successful psychic tests. You still have to reroll them.

It's a lot better. The chance to fail a leadership check on Ld10 is a lot lower than trying to scrape together 1-3 4+ unless you use a lot of dice. Using a lot of dice increases the chance for perils, but with spell familiar you can get away with rolling less dice, thus using less warp charges and decreasing the chance for perils.

I don't think CSM lost that much. DPs may have been nerfed, somewhat, but they also gained in other areas. Heldrakes were nerfed somewhat because of the changes to vector strikes (depending on what you plan on using them for), but gained on the vehicle charts. All of our daemon engines gained on the changes to vehicle charts. So did the rhinos. If you run PMs, poison was nerfed for toughness 4 adversaries. Spell familiar got a huge buff. Helbrutes are now more useful as they are scoring.
I think the new edition helped CSM more than it helped other armies.

I'm going to need to do some review concerning Allocation of Wounds and Line of Sight, focusing on weapons that allowing Hits to be generated without Line of Sight.
