I've read the section a few times, and the rules make no mention of rolling to actually enter play. It seems you automatically enter, then scatter roll, then if you land in dangerous terrain you take the Deep Strike Test. Am I correct in this interpretation?

Previously, you rolled to see if you actually landed at all.

When you say "landed" I presume you mean arrives from reserves?

The Deep Strike info on p.162 says
"Roll for the arrival of all Deep Striking units as specified in the rules for Reserves (pg 135) and then deploy them as follows:...:"

Then on p.135 it says "At the start of your second turn, you must roll a D6 for each unit... If the roll is a 3 or more, that unit arrives this turn..."

deep strike never mentioned that, ever. it is assumed that you would make the connection since they arrive from reserve, you have to roll to see if they come in. Some units (drop pods, DA termies...if that was the right marine chap that is) deepstrike turn 1 automatically but the rest are normal reserves that simply arrive differently.

The only change, which is kinda significant, is vehicles count as Combat Speed instead of Cruising Speed when deepstriking. iirc, thats droppods and a couple misc other marine things like deepstriking landraiders that are even affected by that.

It means that DE Raiders/Venoms can Deep Strike and the guys aboard can fire at full BS, which is a HUGE change. It ALSO means that (unless there are rules there I don't know about) occupants of a Deep Striking transport can disembark on the drop.
