Have not had a chance to play Eldar yet with the new addition. You mentioned denying the Tyranids warp charges on a 5+. Was wondering what gave you this ability?
I was just surprised none of his blessings went off... or very few of them.
Thanks for the battle report... really enjoyed it!

Eldar are pretty lethal in the psychic phase, especially if you bring a lot of Warlocks. Eldrad will be a beast. My Farseer was a mastery level (3) higher than his Flyrant (2), so I was able to gain +1 to the deny roll since the Flyrant targeted him and his unit.
With his pool as ~7, the Tyranids player would spend 2-3 charges per spell. Well, 1-2 4+ would be rolled, if that. The Eldar had ~12 warp charges a turn, so it could dump 6+ dice into a deny, easily getting 1-2 sixes (or at higher odds). Forces with double or more pool will dominate the phase.

Although this is a great read you played it wrong. Tactical objectives are scored at the end of player turn not game turn so it looks like eldar would have won as you wouldn't have denied him those points after his player turn.

Unless something has changed in 7th that I'm not aware of the Avatar + Wraithblades should still have been in combat from that assault turn 2. The Avatar killing 5 before anyone else swings would have meant that it was possible that no one else attacked, but the units would need to be over 9" away in order for them not to be locked at the end of the phase. The combat doesn't instantly end the second you have no models in base contact at any initiative step, otherwise most top tier assault units with good initiative would end up out of combat after the make their attacks any time they hit a standard unit.
Even if you can't make it into base contact with your initiative step move both sides still need to attempt to get into contact (which based on the distances in the photo means the Gaunts and Wraithblades may have ended up swinging at I4 as well). Then on top of that both sides have a 3" pile in towards each other at the end of the phase. In any case morale is tested before the final pile ins/combat end check/consolidation, so this would have made a bit of a difference. The Avatar and the Wraithguard spent most of the game killing that unit, and as you mentioned they were out of Synapse that unit should have been well dead (Gaunts testing on -5 Ld with a I10 Avatar chasing them are no going to live).

I saw in one of the turns it says Eldar used their ghosthelm to negate a perils of the warp? I am trying to find out where Eldar players are finding this rule. I read it negates a wound caused by perils of the warp. Where does it say you ignore perils all together? You should still be rolling on the perils of the warp chart right?

Yes we still need to roll, we just ignore any wounds caused. Unless you roll the dreaded "1"

I could be wrong here as I am not a close combat expert but both my opponent and I agreed this what the solution. We ended the combat because even with the pile-ins with every unit in their initiative step, no one was in base contact or even within 3". Can you point me to the BRB on this so I can reread it? Thanks!

Yes, I should have been more descriptive on this part. Thanks jay170788.

Yea, my mistake. I found it on page 53 of the 7th edition book: "After the combat has been resolved, it can happen that some models from units that did not Fall Back are not in base contact with an enemy. These models must make a Pile In move, starting with the side whose turn it is." Thanks!
