The FAQ for MT Scions is allowing a Scion with a vox-caster to replace their hot-shot lasgun with a hot-shot laspistol free of charge. Why would anybody want to do that? Who would want to give up an 18" rapid fire weapon for a 6" pistol with the same S and AP? What am I missing here?

Because of what the pistol does to a model who is carrying a power axe in its other hand.

So if none of my Scions are running other melee weapons, then would that just make a lasgun strictly better?

Edit: Regular Scions can't even run melee weapons (unless you count this pistol "upgrade"). Only a Commissar, Tempestor Prime, or a Tempestor are able to take items from the Melee Weapons list.

It's also an assault weapon. Sometimes it matters. Not with scions usually, ofc.

In previous dex you could give a sergeant hot-shot lazpistol + plazmapistol and he looked badass. Actually, you wanted to giver him a plazma pistol cause it cost only 10 pt and you wanted every single possibility of improving firepower on such an expensive 1-hit squad you could get. So that they dished 2 meltas, 1 krak nade, 1 plazma pistol at an enemy. Don't know if it's relevant now.

Probly because the kit comes with that option? That's the only reason I can think of.
Really, they should all have pistols by default anyways...

It's so you can forge a narrative where your Stormicus Trooperus are all pretending to be Genericus Actio Vir Fortis.

Except for the part where they all get slaughtered because only having one S3 AP3 shot at pistol range on a model as expensive as a Scion is asking to get cut down.

I'm hoping future MT books give them a much fuller unit list if they're not meant to essentially be an add-on army (as evidenced by them NOT having their own special detachment).

They're cool enough badasses to deserve it if GW insists on giving them their own codex.

The Taurox needs a redesign yesterday though.

Kudos to the model designer though, I'd never thought the Dialogus and rogue trader Tyranid warriors would ever have serious competition for the dubious honour of "ugliest model to ever grace 40k."

it looks cooler to charge the enemy in CC than to simply shoot them, at a cost of practicality.

What's sad is that this is what it boils down to...

Thanks guys.
