I'm curious why, when compared to the Imperial Guard, the Stormtroopers have a limited arsenal. If anyone could answer this constructively, I'd appreciate it.

I'm not against having a limited arsenal, so long as what they do have is adequate in most games.

EDIT: Not having heavy tanks makes sense I suppose, but why not include some kind of Sentinel?

Because the MT , game wise at least, are pretty much intended to be used as an allied detachment rather than a primary army, so the heavier elements are 'meant' to come from other armies (probably IG).

Fluff wise, the MT are intended for precision orbital strikes and insertions, kind of mission where all you have to work with is a gun, your armour and a grav-chute. Rarely are they deployed in masse as a fighting force, more often as support elements. They would, fluffwise, get a lot more gear, but like everything, it's simplified for the sake of the game.

The good thing about Unbound lists is that you can 'counts-as' whatever you like in the army. So grab some sentinels, paint them in an MT scheme, and you're good to go.

What Paradigm said or GW were too lazy to make you a proper codex.

They arent an army, they are a small operations type force. They take out specific targets to help real armies. Seemingly little tasks with huge outcomes that need special attention and skills.

Much like the sisters of battle and many other smaller organizations within the imperium, they arent there to fight wars as much as help turn the tide or deal with internal internal threats and so on.

So as said above, they are pretty much an allied detachment.

Codex:MT was just a way for GW to make money on people clamoring for Imperial Guard by releasing an earlier codex that would become obsolete shortly after the release of Codex:AM.

The main reason people could justify its purchase (since it cost as much as a full codex) was that Storm Troopers were scoring. 7th Edition negated that benefit significantly (still "objective secured" but not half as useful) and now the book is just an obsolete item not even six months old.

Scions from the MT codex are superior to AM Scions. They get objective secured and better orders, as well as access to two powerful formations. It is definitely not obsolete.

I say obsolete because GW had been mentioned as referring to the codex as such when inquired if they would be producing more a couple of months ago.

As I said they get objective secured, but it is quantifiably less beneficial in a world where everything scores, as compared to when only troops did. If GW produced MT and AM post-7th with those same rules in place, I doubt anyone would have bought MT when you are paying the price of a full codex for two orders, better scoring, and a formation. I just don't think I there is any value there (although truth be told I never thought MT was worth it, it just seems that GW must have been aware of how they would lessen its value months later)

This new Unbound game type is of great interest. Say goodbye to the FoC and use (almost) whatever you want? Not bad at all

Because like the Imperial Knight codex, it's a vehicle to sell the latest two kit release of GW's.

Well, three if you count the Valkyrie.

I'm hoping it gets expanded into a proper army much like how FW is working on bringing in the old knights from epic to allow the IK book to have actual variety.

For the same reason navy seals don't get Abrams tanks. They are special operations troops not a main line battle force.

I don't get a lot of the stormtrooper hate. Compared to the old IG codex in one elite slot you can now take 35 stormtroopers or for a direct comparison, in the old book you could get ten stormtroopers with 2 specials, now in the same slot you get 10 with 6 special weapons, who can give orders, and combat squad. That's awesome.

Nonsense. The Battle Company box is perfect for filling out your ranks of aspect warriors with a large contingent from the Screaming Baldies shrine.

I love the MT codex personally, the only thing it needs to be 'perfect' in my eyes is air support (as in IN assets ala Lightings, Thunderbolts, and Avengers).
