In the GK FAQ it now mentions Vindicators, Predators, and Whirlwinds can I take them?

What points cost does it list in your codex?

Can't take them *NOW*...this could be an indication of some of what's coming when the codex eventually gets updated though.

Nope. I'd be happy to see them in a new 'dex though, perhaps as a replacement for all the inquisition stuff that got spun off into it's own codex?

I'm still maintaining that we will see Codex: Grey Knights re-released as a suppliment to Codex: Adeptus Astartes in the next year or so, sans Inquisition units. Is makes sense as GKs are Space Marines, yet far to specialized to be rolled directly into the new AA codex. Also, GKs still lack depth in background and unit tactics like the Blood Angels (might become a suppliment), or Space Wolves (might become a suppliment). Dark Angels seem to be unique in that GW felt they were different enough to warrant a separate codex, yet cognesent enough to realize players hated the codex. We might see Dark Angels as an eventual AA suppliment, too.

We shall see.

There is no way SWs will just be a supplement, they are far too different(only a the vehicles are the same), and have plenty of fluff.

BA I could see, they have only a few different units, and just get Assault Marines as troops

All Imperial units are Battle Brothers, so you could take them from any Marine codex as part of a detachment or Unbound.

Sigh. I once posted a full-out list of what was unique about the wolves and BA, and found them to have almost the same amount of uniqueness apart from the standard codex. I guess people are back to the ignorant "BA? Those are just red marines right?" Impression.

Yep, that's what I was thinking. The "can I or can't I" debate should be largely over, what with Unbound.
Take a single GK model, make him your Warlord. Now you have a Primary Detachment of GK. Take as many tanks as will fit into your agreed-upon points limit. Now you have all the OP's desired tanks in a GK army.

If the OP had only wanted us to look at CADs, he would've specified. Again, I don't really see the points of this thread....It's pretty obvious that you can.

Even in situations of Combined Arm Detachments the Restriction is still 'Must contain Units from the same Faction,' is it not?

The OP question was more "can the C:GK faction take SM tanks as faction units now"? Yet another gripe about the new rules, YMDC question are going to get brutally long winded.

If your playing C:GK purely then no you cant take them....if your going to ally in some space marines then yes you can...if your going unbound then yes you can

Can someone point me to the section which states a Detachment must consist of Units from the same Codex?

I have vague memories of reading that it is Faction specific and would like a head-start on finding where this additional Restriction is located, for when I get back to said book.

Actually, I was planning on using bookmarks to select the appropriate section seeing that Books are digital these days.

The question I have right now stems from a vague memory that Combined Arm Detachment's have a restriction that reads along the lines of 'Units must be selected from the same Faction.' I am still in the process of reviewing all the Rules, so it is possible I over-looked some global Restriction, but this doesn't make sense to me. There is no reason to have a Detachment Restriction of 'Units must be selected from the same Faction' if there was already some global Restriction preventing Units from being selected from different Codex's to begin with.

I try to not make assumptions about what people are saying on YMDC. I only consider what they actually say, not what they might have said. This approach avoids a lot of potential problems. It also indirectly points out to people that they should be clearer with their language, especially in YMDC, where flaring tempers often hinge on the (mis)interpretation of a single word.

Reviewing the entire Army List Building section at the moment and I have yet to find a Global Restriction stating that a Detachment can only consist of Units from a single Codex. Instead what I find is instructions telling us each Detachment will have it's own internal Restrictions, followed by an example which specifically names a Detachment type and points out a Restriction that all Units must be the same faction as each other. That is far from a Global Restriction stating that all Units within a Detachment must be from the same Codex, it isn't even a Restriction stating that all Units must be from the same Faction, as it allows Detachments to come in all sizes, shapes and flavours by regulating themselves. It is a common trend that I have started seeing throughout a this book after a few readings, it appears designed to allow future concepts to be integrated a little easier.

Then there is this little puzzle for you to explain:
The Rules telling us what a Faction is contains instructions to treat Supplements as the same Faction as the original Codex.
The Restriction for a Combined Arms Detachment states that all the units within have to be from the same Faction.
What prevents me from putting a Far-sight Enclave Commander into the same Detachment as a Tau Empire Stealth Team?
