Hey gurus,

With regards to placement of the grot crew for a "big gun". I'm thinking one in front of the gun and one behind. I'm just not clear if its the best. Ideas?

Thanks

Don't put more in front than will cause a morale check. So if you have less than 4 crew put none in front. 1 will die and they will have to a morale at (drum roll) Ld 5 and promptly run off the board. I run units of 3 kannons and put 1 crew in front.

That being said, I swear my gretchin pass 90% of their morale checks somehow.

Please don't use anecdotes like this. IT isn't condusive to good tactics discussion.

Good apraisal otherwise.

what's the maximum number of grots you can get in a squad? If you can get to about 13, you'll be fine - Kannons take high quality shooting to take out (well, "high quality", autocannons), meaning your opponent would be unwise to pummel much more than a few wounds if they only plan to kill a few grots - 13 is a good number because you need to cause 4 wounds to cause a morale check.

I'm almost certain it was meant more as a lighthearted joking kinda thing and I can't understand how anybody would actually believe that he was using this in anyway to actually talk about effective crew placement.

I'm sure he is as well. The problem is, it will be taken for fact anyway.

Sooooo, back to me... Lol

I have 3 guns, 6 Grots. What I'm trying to avoid is losing a gun and then having useless Grots running around.

With 6 grots have only 1 in front. 2 in front will die reasonably easy and force a morale check. This is worse than useless grots running around. If you get more grots then you can put more in front, but always less than 25%.

These guns can take a pounding. T7 2 wounds 3+, these things don't do down easy to shooting, and if they get shot down, then it is a truckload of firepower not aimed at the rest of your army. And remember how dirt cheap this unit is as well.
