Ok so my question is this, since the new edition brought up the ability for the Chariots to choose whether or not the chariot or the rider is hit with different weapons(which is awesome) how does Jinking work if I elect to have the rider take the shots?
My assumption is that I can jink the shot and then the cover save would apply to either the chariot or the rider, however I am not sure and can see why people may have an issue with this assumption. Just checking to see what others think, since if I can jink for a 4+ cover why would I spend 45pts on a 3+ invuln.

The cover save applies to the model. And since the model has 2 profiles you can use the cover save on the chariot using the CCB profile or the chariot using the overlord profile.

Oh don't want to start a new thread and it's somewhat related.

Does the CCB return with it's quantum shielding if the Lord passes his ever living roll?

The rule specifies that the 'model is returned to play'.

Not created anew.

The only thing it regains is a single hull point.

The only thing that gets changed is the number of wounds/hull points is set to one. So yes they would return, I would assume it's like my laptop and just needs a hard reboot every now and then.

Israel

It would have its QS upon reanimating if it died without losing it in the first place (glanced down/overlord killed).

also, jink isnt a real bonus to the overlord sense he should have a 3++ already.

Well your paying 45pts to increase your save by 1, it's a pretty expensive upgrade especially since a 15pt weave should do all you need it to do in CC. Just trying to cost cut on these things since they get as expensive as a land raider pretty quickly.

It's mostly for melee. Without the Phase Shifter, an Overlord only has its 2+ in melee. Furthermore, when getting hit by a lascannon or melta, I want it to hit my W3 Overlord and not the CCB.

Melee without the phase shifter has been fine for a while now, destroyer lords have been effective without them, most melee weapons aren't ap2 and those that are generally strike after you've struck. As for getting hit by the lascannon or the melta you can still take both on your W3 Overlord just that you'll be taking them on 4+ cover save rather than a 3++ invuln. So I am not sure it is worth the large point cost to improve it by 16.667%.

It's not between a 3++ and 4++.

If it hits the Overlord, the worst that can happen is lose 1W.

If it hits the CCB, your enemy gets +2 or even +3 on the damage roll meaning that it has a 33% or even 50% chance to immediately destroy the entire model. Even if it survives, you lose QS.

I am confused, I am saying that when you are hit by a melta you jink the chariot giving the Overlord a 4+ cover save against the the melta and if you fail you lose 1W nothing hits the chariot still. Same as if you had a gaker only would have a 3++ instead of cover.

Then you get to combat and your CCB gets hit by powerfists with no saves at all

Fists strike at after you and are usually carried by characters who you can pick out in a challenge. You should not be fighting against multiple fists anyway since your fast enough to not be charged by them and they aren't your ideal targets. Anyway in CC with a fist he'll probably just wail on the barge anyway and in my meta(and a lot of others I am sure) it is unlikely that the barge is going to be ruled as having the phase shifter for actions targeted against the vehicle profile.

The point is phase shifter guarantees a save on both parts of the chariot no matter what. You're not always going to get an armor save in combat (such as if you fight a unit with power fists like terminators) and you can't jink in combat so its just insurance
