Hey guys,
Wondering how you guys would kit your talos out in this situation... I run 3 ravagers, and thanks to being able to have as many primary detachments as desired, I can squeeze a pair of Talos into my coven list as well! The basic structure of the list looks something along these lines:
Urien Rakarth
Haemunculus (liquifier)
30 wracks (10 man units, double liquifier in a raider each)
3 warrior squads (5 man with blasters in a venom)
3 Trueborn units (3 man units with 3 blasters each in a venom)
4 Grotesques modded to str 6 in the unit with the haemy and Urien
3 ravagers
2 talos
So pretty much, I'm wondering how you gents would kit out these talos engines? Thanks!

With blasters all over the place, I'd recommend you use the same loadout I use.
Extra CC weapon, Chain Flails, call it a day.
He can wreck most infantry units, do decent turn around against MCs, and is a good second-string choice for anti-vehicle service. And cheap, too!

So no liquifier or heat lance? I was thinking since he scores now in 7th, I can move him to a midfield objective and deny that area as no one is likely to move towards him... haha

Basic with a Liquifier gun.
The Talos is not an anti-tank weapon, spending extra points to give him one, even with Twin-linked, is counter intuitive. Most of the time you will be running anyway, and if not then you have a Splinter Cannon base, which always fires 6 shots due to relentless. Usually i am running anyway, but the extra range of the splinter cannon is helpful to pick off the last surviving member of an enemy unit to get him an early pain token.
The Liquifier is simply to good to miss as it is quite likely the best flamer in the game, and a Twin Linked one is scary as heck. My record for my Talos's Liquifier stands at an entire unit of 10 Sternguard that just drop podded down in perfect flamer formation. T'was brutal.
Your a monstrous creature for feths sake! You see a tank you charge it, not blast it! Admittedly the changes to smash hurt, but the Talos is slightly stronger then the average MC (Str 7 FTW!) so that should handle it. The extra CC weapon is stupid expensive and Chain flails you can do without. Ws 5 + High Str + Charge attack + HoW should pull you through even if you roll low on attacks.

Thanks for this!
Are they worthwhile? I know ravagers and razorwing jet fighters are probably more competitive, but are they decent enough for fun fluffy coven list games with my pal?

Liq / Splinter Cannon, nothing else. Try and get a WWP on the Haemo and have them pop out and kill stuff.

I personally love them, and usually bring 1. But I am a little weird in my Heavy Support choices, with my usual build being a Void Raven, Reaper (Haywire Ravager) and this Talos. I find he does really well if you are careful with him, he should *always* have access to a cover save when possible but it depends on the game. As i said earlier, just having him near your units is a fantastic deterrent to Deep Strikers and Drop Pods, and if they don't have any simply run him towards the enemy via cover.
In fluffy games you will love him, he is a great area denial unit and a bully unit. Competitively less so, as i always remember he is 4 Krak Missiles away from death. But if the opponent is ready for him, or is busy with other things, then he will find 3+ Sv/5+++ FnP T7 is reasonably durable one the turn before it charges into his troops!

Appreciate it man!
I have my kabalite tourney list, and it's won me prize at a few local RTT's. Definitely fun and competitive, however I've finally made the financial plunge into my coven units! I have:
30 wracks
4 grotesques
2 Talos
Urien
a Haemunculus
and a beast pack.
So I've got a nice core, but I notice Pure coven doesn't have too much AT. So looking into it further, I've found it isn't unfluffy to include ravagers, venoms and raiders. As Haemunculi are egotistical maniacs and will do anything for an advantage. Therefore, I've added 5 venoms holding Blasterborn and Kabalite Warriors with blasters, and 3 ravagers. This doesn't seem unfluffy to you does it? I mean, would you still consider this a coven themed list? I have had the pleasure if assaulting things with wracks and grots and it's so much fun. Thoughts?

It's perfectly fluffy to include Ravagers and Venoms and Raiders in a Coven army, it would be all but unplayable if it wasn't! As for your army, i would shy away from Ravagers and lean more towards one of our flyers. To use Ravagers effectively you *need* to have at least 2, while a single Void Raven is perfectly up to it's job. This way you can still fit in 2 Taloses(? Talosis? Talosi?) which also work very well in pairs due to target overload, especially when supported by a Beast Pack. Do remember Grotesques make adequate AV against all but the hardiest of Vehicles due to Str 6 + Furious charge, attacking rear armour they should wreck most vehicles easily.
I must also admit i love assaulting things with Grotesques and did really well with them in a recent tournament. It was a 'welcome to 7th' tourney, and everyone and their nan was packing Psykers galore! So i took 4 Grotesques in a Raider with Lady Mayls (Psyker that!) and a Haemonculi (With crucible of Malediction) and they simply wrecked all kinds of face. It also helped that the Crucible took out half of a Seer Council first turn (Torment Grenade Launchers FTW), but i digress.
My point being that if you are only going loosely for the Coven theme, then including a High Initiative character to the Grots unit is really helpful for Sweeping Advance. My advice would be a Djin Blade Archon with PGL for Grenades and AP3, and it would still be fluffy as he could be the Archon who your Haemonculi is 'borrowing' the Raiders off.

I'm glad it still looks fluffy. Although, I must point out that in a game sub 2000 points, I can take up to 6 Heavy Support because you can have unlimited primary detachments now in a battle forged list which is kinda cool. I'd like to point out a sample 2k list that I'm kinda shooting for, and I'd love your feedback not only on effectiveness, but also in fluff. Keep in mind, I've got my tourney kabal list, but I'm not finding much challenges at my FLGS and with my friends so I want to bring something a little more casual and fluffy. Here goes:
HQ:
Master Haemunculus, venom blade, liquifier, shattershard (or crucible)
Baron Sathonyx
Troops:
10 Wracks, 2 liquifier; Raider
10 Wracks, 2 liquifier; Raider
10 Wracks, 2 liquifier; Raider
5 Warriors, blaster, venom
5 Warriors, blaster, venom
Elites:
4 Grotesques, liquifier; Raider (with haemy)
Fast Attack:
5 Beastmasters
-10 Khymera
-6 Razorwing flocks
Dedicated Transports:
Raider, Dark Lance
Raider, Dark Lance
Raider, Dark Lance
Raider Dark Lance
Venom, dual splinter cannon
Venom, dual splinter cannon
Heavy Support:
Ravager, Triple Dark Lance
Ravager, Triple Dark Lance
Ravager, Triple Dark Lance
Talos Pain Enginer, liquifier, splinter cannon
Talos Pain Engine, liquifier, splinter cannon
Fluff being, The baron even though outcasted, was an archon and still has some ravagers, and venoms / raiders. The Master Haemy is really looking to make a name for himself, and if the Baron can be redeemed then he can become his Master Haemunculus once the baron's title of "Archon" is restored. Thoughts?

If you're close enough to Liquefy someone, then you're close enough to charge them, and you should probably just do that.
I listened to all the netlists when I first started, and putzed around with liquifier guns. Bottom line is that they never performed up to expectation. Not once.

One wonders how it can under perform? It's a twin-linked strength 4 flamer at the very least, which in itself is pretty good. When you then take into account it has a 1/2 chance to melt power armour, it seems to me to be the best flamer in the entire game save for the big torrent flamers. My counter to what your point is if you are close enough to charge, why not Liquify? Unless you are likely to liquify yourself out of charge range i see it as a much more valuable use of points. I mean honestly, it's the same price as an extra freaking close combat weapon!
As for the list, it looks like a very fun one i will give you that! I would personally give the Haemonculi a Husk Blade, simply because its a cool weapon, your paying for extra combat stats, might as well use them. Maybe have him pick up a Webway portal for the Talosi? Not to use every game, but it would give you the option to throw it down in front of a gunline. After you have played some games i demand some battle reports!
