Seriously? Balls, I have zero anti vehicle in my army atm unless I deepstrike right on top of the damn thing or risk plasma cannons lol

It's side armour 10, and has huge side arc, so bolters can put it down if nothing else. Any why not use plasma weapons, they're awesome?

All of these questions, and more, can be answered in the Astra Militarum Codex!

The Chimera is simply an AV12/10/10, 3 HP transport with a variety of medium strength guns that can be taken out with a variety of weapons.

It's one of the least scary vehicles in the AM codex.

Either Autocannon or Multilaser. Those were the old options at least.

What army are you using? Space Marines?

And if you don't want to buy the codex, your opponent has a responsibility to tell you what everything is, and what the rules for them when you ask.

If he's just springing things on you out of the blue, then he's being very unsportsmanlike.

Each time my friends and I play, someone has a new unit or two added to their collections.

That's hardly "Springing out of the blue." So long as you are given the opportunity to review the rules for new units, no harm, no foul.

Also, good luck taking it back when it's been assembled and painted. The Chimera is a very useful vehicle with the Multi-laser and Heavy Bolter.

yeah, that said the big advantage of it in 7th is it's got objective secured and is reasonable well armed, if he places it right it could be hard to dislodge that puppy from a point in a timely fashion.

He should keep it, it's still a nice vehicle, the store owner probably got it confused with the taurox. Anyway the chimera two strengths are that it's cheap and it's low profile. Hiding it is easier than most troop transports and it's not expensive to field. It's a great little machine if you can get it holed down or into heavy cover with clear fields of fire.

Its a great vehicle for any ig army! He nerds to simply ask any ig player if they own one and the answer is a resounding: "yes; several"

DA army: 3500pts,
admech army: 600pts
ravenguard: 565 pts

Assault it. Krak grenades will glance it to death very quickly. Even without grenades a squad of Marines can hurt it with their fists.

And if you think that is scary, wait until he starts fielding half a dozen Leman Russ tanks.

Yeah, that's not a tank.

This is a tank:

He's doubly wrong.

It's both a Chimera and not an APC.

Chimera's are IFVs.

My codex refers to it as the "Chimera APC", so he isn't wrong in GW's opinion. Why GW feels it is an APC instead of an IFV I'm not sure though.

It's not my fault that GW can't get it's military vehicle classifications right.

It'd be nice if they'd get it right, but it's something they seem to like doing. SM Razorbacks are referred to as APCs (iirc). GW seems to just go "Can it transport infantry? If so, APC"

Is there a lascanon armed chimera turret sold by FW, because there is an auto cannon one I have seen recasts done of those.

There's a TL Heavy Bolter and an Autocannon turret available from FW, no Lascannon though.
The Elysian Tauros Venator has a TL Lascannon, but it looks quite different from a Chimera.

Well, any dudes in the back who bring a lascannon can fire it out of the hatch. That requires a mounted up squad with a lascannon, obviously. That also means if the Chimmy moves at all then that lascannon snap fires (because it's heavy).

I also second what everyone says about them being easy to kill. I regularly bring about half a dozen at 1000 points and usually only 1 or 2 survive unexploded if they're lucky. Anything strength 7 or above makes mincemeat out of side armour. That's autocannons, plasma, krak missiles, melta (ouch!), lascannons and so on ...
