Last night I got in my first game against a summoning Daemons army. The battle report and thoughts are here:

http://www.rocketshipgames.com/blogs/tjkopena/2014/06/40k-first-summoning-battle/

I also have two previous 7e battle reports and thoughts in these posts:

Thx

A very good battle report however can I suggest that you not actually tell me the outcome before you tell us what happened during the battle?

That was my only complaint started reading then its like Oh he lost.

Great battle report.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

interesting, summoning army still lost...

also, just FYI, when that herald turned into a greater demon, his entire unit, not just him, would have died.

not tha tit matters since they lost anyways, but good to know for the future.

Thanks for that note. If Daemons are really going to be *the* army for at least the early phase of this edition, I guess I'll have to grab a codex and really study it!

that's really a matter of interpretation easysauce. This has been discussed in absurd length on the YMDC, and it is FAR from unanimous. read the relative rules and discuss them with your opponent. Playing it as you and your opponent think is RAI would save you a migraine.

Another point of debate going on is if those summoned troops are objectives secured (nowhere says they are part of the detachment).

Yeah, I did not stop to think about the summoned units having Objective Secured and just assumed they would. Thinking about it more it needs an FAQ, but that seems unworkable, they have to go into a separate detachment. That said, if GW actually does put out an FAQ, counter to logic of the existing rules and what makes sense in terms of balance, I actually expect them to give conjured troops Objective Secured.

Another interesting thing to note is that portalglyph units are not objective secured either since they are not bought as part of the detachment.

Just something interesting to remember as well

People who stopped buying GW but wont stop bitching about it are the vegans of warhammer

They are not. In fact, they probably aren't even in the top five. Eldar, GK, SM (all kinds), AM, Necrons are better.

I wouldn't go so far to say that considering their ranked as one of the best armies and just got a huge buff.

People are still trying the army out, and going head to head with top armies and winning.

One game losing doesn't mean it's a terrible army. It's very very strong though when played correctly and is really more a scalpel army than anything. I've played it extensively and so have others.

It's not easy to keep track of you have to make really smart decisions when summoning and in the Psychic Phase, as well as knowing what to summon when and it has some huge deficiencies in regards to dealing with specific units. Everything is swinging though towards the Chaos Daemons version of Alpha Strike w/ Deep Strike not setting up initially and getting the drop on things.

I think games that are close like that are really great because it gives people a chance to look at what works and what doesn't. torrent of fire has a really great battle report as well.

I said Daemons are not "the" army. I did not say they are terrible. Go try the summoning machine against a competent opponent running any of the five armies I mentioned and see what kind of an uphill battle you have ahead of you, especially Grey Knights.

I dunno, I've beaten most of the "stars" of so far with it, and been beaten by them. Everyone's still experimenting , trying new things etc.. I think it's to early to tell. I think in a year we'll see how it plays out. Right now it's waaaaaaaaaay to long to play in a tournament. Like seriously, if you slowboat you'll not finish the game. I had one game last over 4 hours. It takes so much time , of course I've gotten that down to a normal reasonable number now but starting out it was like O_o. Greyknights are tough.. for a little bit. Then you chew through their "dispel" dice and start killing them off and shutting their psychics down and its like "welp". They really are super expensive.

The only army that I really hate in a match up is a Alphastrike or a Leafblower AM army as it can just table you in one turn almost.

It's also super fun once you get used to it and it's not a real "deathstarry " army. You actually have to know what your doing be quick about it and know pretty much what units you need to be summoning and when.

Daemons won some of the biggest tournaments of 2013 with their new book and were a nightmare that went undefeated at the 2012 BAO with their old book. Army wide invulnerable saves and fast moving assault elements made them the best counter to Eldar and Tau. Tournament results say the Daemon codex is tier one.

Also IIRC, Fateweaver has two heads, both ML 4 and I am sure you would add both to the overall WC gained per turn, think a FAQ needs to clear it up though

In the works

Warhammer 40k. Enjoy it or go play something else. Life is too short to complain.

Nope it specifically says in his entry he only counts as 1 level 4 for generating warp charge.

Really? I'll need to double check the codex then. Good to know.

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

The Last Time I played Summoning Demons with my Crons, I found that a denied flank was potent, he hid all his squishy psykers in a corner, and i put my army in the other, they had next to no shooting, and a kill point mission helped sway things in my favor.

What won the day, was my 3 scythes, and 30 immortals i dropped out of them oblitorating 3 heralds, the grimore, and 2 squads horrors in a shooting phase.

Seriously they are that squishy.
Best way to handle summoning demons is attack the heralds and horrors and use any counter-assault units to tie up FMCs.

Bedouin Dynasty: 10000 pts
The Silver Lances: 4000 pts
The Custodes Winter Watch 4000 pts
