So I have a friend who has informed me of the new psychic phase and how space wolves will have the ability to use daemon psychic tree. Im busy as hell and haven't checked on the new rules but this info blew me away!

Im kinda of a lore nut when it comes to 40k so i was bummed to hear about this and cant truly believe my friend was right! Let me know if it's true if so are you mad as me at this blatant disregard for lore (Runepriest use the power from fenris so it is pure and such and the idea of bloodthirster exploding from the remains of a rune priest bums me out)

Space wolves also lost every one of their unique codex powers like Jaws, living lightning, murderous hurricane, ect. I was more ticked over that than the daemonology part

I agree it was to the lore (dont get me wrong watching a line of meganobz die from jaws is annoying) but I totally agree they should just make a tree for wolves again it was cool and made the wolves more unique.

Space wolves were always heretics, now it's just easier to see.

Space wolves were always hypocritical jackasses, now they just had their fluff butchered too. Stupid douches. "Duh, we use nature powers to summon demons, so we're not as bad as the rest of you!!"

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Bit unecessary. maybe you should tone the attacks back a bit.

OP, i agree that the fluff of any imperial summoning daemons is weak.

I'll apologize to the first space wolf who comes forward and says my words hurt him.

Other than that, after having read "A Thousand Sons", I look at them as the lowest of all the legions, a pack of mongrels who should have been culled from the get-go. No real person is hurt by my words, so I'm good with them.

Any Psyker has the potential to summon demons...even space marine ones......it only breaks fluff/ is heresy if you actually have them summon them.

No one is making you take daemonology, you're the one that gets to decide if your wolves are heretics. When GW gives an army the option to take something that doesn't make it default gear for all of them, it's simply a possibility. No precious fluff is being trampled on, because wolves have gone to chaos in the past, and it's just being offered as a way to portray this.

Same with allies, people puffed and spluttered about lore there too, but it was always based on past alliances. It's all about freedom instead of more limitations. Why people complain about this I will never know.

Also regarding daemons, remember; anything that dwells in the warp is considered a daemon. Eldar avatars are daemons too. All psychic energy is from the warp, it's all daemonic. It's not automatically a sign of something being evil, who's to say your daemon summoning doesn't bring out some completely different warp entities. Like the powers the rune priests go on about having that are totally different from everyone else's psychic stuff, yessir.

They're willfully fooling themselves, it's still the warp, regardless of their unwillingness to face up to their hypocrisy.

I disagree that this is sufficient reason. GW won't make IG battle brothers with CSM to represent the very common traitor guard, but they *will* let SMs summon daemons for the extremely rare fringe case where SMs freshly go renegade?

Well, I'd hesitate to roll for daemonology.

Its much easer to suffer perils of the warp and consequently loose your precious Runepriest asap.

The daemonology lores are high risk, moderate reward if your caster isn't a daemon. Even though you can use them, I really wouldn't except as a bit of a joke.

Well having read Prospero Burns and A Thousand Sons, A Thousand Sons didn't exactly give them a fair shake by any stretch of the imagination (not to mention that Prospero Burns was simply far and away a better book, A Thousand Sons was just typical bolter porn).

The latter one. Their codex powers were replaced by rulebook powers.
But daemonology is the worst choice. They'll die too easily.

You misunderstand. They are not summoning daemons. On the table they just use the rules for daemons.

For example, you could try to summon the spirit of ancient Vikings (using the rules for Bloodletters). Or you could summon wolf spirits (using the rules for Nurgle puppies). Etc.

It is all about Forging The Narrative!!

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Yeah... there's a word for that in the Imperium.

It's called Sorcery. It's an act of heresy, and directly contradicts the word of the God-Emperor of Mankind.

Any time you manipulate the Warp, you run the risk of having a Daemon claw its way into reality out of your b-hole. Them's the breaks.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Which perfectly explains why they are so wary of their "Come the Apocalypse" allies they've summoned.

Even if the daemons DID take on the appearance of Fenrisian heroes, somewhere deep inside, the SW still know they're fooling themselves, and are hypocrites.

Daemonology does not represent the Psyker being used as a gateway for daemons. That is assuming that "Bam, Daemons over there! Bam, Daemons over there! Go, friendly Daemons!" is not the danger that lurks within every psyker.

For the ghosts idea - hey, the Grey Knights do it, so...

It's an option, just how allying with Chaos is an option. Using come the Apocalypse, SW technically can ally with Chaos, or Tyranids, or whoever.

GW sees it as "don't like that part of the fluff? Don't use it" whereas the normal gamer sees "it's an option, so now everyone will use it if they want"

Well, how about we give all Space Marines the "option" to use Shuriken Catapults, and we give Tyranids the "option" to use Land Speeders?

EDIT: 8th Edition? Necrons with the Mark of Khorne?

Meh, Runepriests are Sorcerers anyway, so it makes sense that they'd start summoning daemons . I thought that the 13th company could be good 'daemons' for the SW, and use Forge World's Leman Russ model for a bloodthirster when it comes out, makes sense considering he's a Daemon Primarch of Khorne now anyway...
