I have found walkers in general - and dreadnaught type walkers specifically - to be lacking for a long time. They are often really cool models though and it's a real shame they don't perform as good as they look. 7th edition has made them a bit better I guess but I still find them lacking.
One big problem, as I see it, is their low number of attacks. They are easily locked in combat by hordes that have no hope whatsoever of hurting them.
I would therefore like to see all walkers get the "rampage" special rule. A big machine that is stomping and swinging deadly weapons should be troublesome to crowd, to say the least - even it it's just a war walker.
What say you?
Edit: fixed some of my horrible spelling.

But having hordes lock down walkers makes total sense, the walkers are not the fastest things out there-they SHOULD take a long time to handle too many guys who are messing with them.
Walkers need no help, 7th did them many graces by nerfing the competition MCs, and boosting tanks in general. they WORK now.
Its just that hordes, for most of them, is the worst possible target. just like for MCs.
You should not be good against everything, some things SHOULD knock you off your game. hordes is what knocks MCs and walkers off theirs.

I've always thought that dreads should be able to use built in flamers to help clear out hordes in cc. Dreads aren't really good at any one particular thing so I think a few extra flamer hits to make them mediocre in cc against hordes would fit right in. Maybe like D3 flamer hits per inbuilt flamer. I worry about adding rampage because that helps against hordes and more elite infantry alike. Or perhaps something more like a stomp attack.

Funny, I always imagined something like a Contemptor would rampage through a horde with contemptous ease.

Try a Furioso Dreadnaught with Blood Talons, they can have a literally unending onslaught of S6 AP3 attacks.

A furioso? No, you mean a DC dread. And there is no real way to get them to cc.
A fragnought, now there is some anti horde. If the template covers 7 models, and they are T 3, 4 miss, that is 17 wounds. Bang. Then assault and sweep up the mess.

Hordes are nerfed by what exactly?
Number of dice, number of wounds.

Negative factors:
Less durabile cause of worse and easilly avoidable cover - aprox 2 times less durable than in 5 ed and it's quite easy to focus fire the spread blob so that it has no cover. Forces you to stick to permanent cover or invul from characters or psy powers.
Slower cause of death of the closest.
No more hidden powerfists cause of challenges and wound allocation from barrage, precision shots, deaths of the closest.
Random charges + overwatch made mellee with a horde even less likely.
If you get to mellee, your damage is severely weakened by deaths of closest cause hordes usually have to spread out and have bad armor saves and ini.
Positive factors:
No more fearless deaths in mellee.
Negatives hugely outweight the positives. + Don't forget new shooty codexes that don't allow your 30 boyz or 50 guardsmen even move 6' per turn thanks to deaths of the closest. The only good part about hordes is their ability to tarpit even though it's much harder than before.
And now you suggest that walkers also need to slaughter hordes like no tomorrow?
All this stuff is present in 7 ed too cause all that's changed are challenges that are even worse for the hordes now.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
I do agree that walkers generally have a low-AT profile. All they need is just +1 base attack and that's all. Not for all walkers but for some of them.

Also a furioso or DC Dread with blood Talons. Any time I run on agents nids orks or IG I kill an entire unit in 1 or 2 rounds of combat
