I'm just interested about people's opinions on the return of the megaforces. Is it a foregone conclusion, or perhaps Games Workshop starting to wake up to their surroundings? can it be taken as a good sign?

Let me know your opinions,

It has to be said that the more of a kicking they've taken financially, the more GW has started to act like a conventional company, offering discounts for multiple purchases etc..

So, yes, it should be a forgone conclusion, but when it comes to acting like a 'normal' business, all bets are off as far as GW are concerned.

I've always been a fan of GW, and it's painful to see them hurting so hard, and with people on the internet cursing their name, but I think that the only way they were going to be woken up was with a bucket of iced water. It's probably good in the long run that the financial dip happened.

Eh, they're now just a replacement to Battleforces, only with a price tag around £100 or higher. Whilst they do at least still offer something of a 'discount' you're still paying more initially which is probably why GW did it.

Not necessarily 'just a replacement to Battleforces', but rather an actual way for someone to get the core of a force.

They look nice theme-wise alright.

I remember seeing a Chaos Warband force that they put out a while ago and it was nice to be able to put a number on the amount of bodies that a small warband would consist of. It was very good for inspiration!

I'd never actually buy one though, as I have far too much stuff to paint as it is.

I think they should have two bundles:

1) A Megaforce/Starter Army that's meant to give you a jump-start on a new army. Should be priced around $200 and should give you an out-of-the-box 750 or 1,000 point (depending on what) army. This could even be a GW store exclusive only. Never happen nowadays but in the olden days they'd also give you the codex for free (ha!) or at a discount with it or something else e.g. another box for half off. The idea being that a new player or someone looking at a new army would start here.

2) A Battleforce meant to expand your army with the mainstays. Maybe even different types of Battleforces with different types of troops (imagine something like one Battleforce that included a Tactical Squad, a Rhino and like Devastators, and another "Assault Force" that had 10x Assault Marines, Bikes and a squad of Termies). This would be available at stores. Should be priced around $100-125.

Sadly it looks like they've dropped #2 completely instead of offering both, so once again GW is so close yet so far. They *NEED* a way not only for someone starting out to get a battle-ready army to jump into playing but also a way for veterans to expand their armies with some solid units.
