Not as Good as a Minion

Brisbane

Ok so a friend of mine at the FLGS decided he wanted to get a league going for WM/H. The league will follow these rules;
Points:
Win = 5 points
Loss = 1 point
*Each player can only enter 3 results per week
Bonus Points:
+ 1 per game when challenging the top ranked player.
+ 1 per game when sitting on the bottom of the ladder.
+ 2 per game when opponent is higher ranked than yourself.
Results will be submitted to the store owner, who will tally them and adjust the table at the end of every week.
Prizes:
Top Hordes Player
Top Warmachine Player
Player who lost the most games
Random Draws/Lucky Door

So while I'm not a great player, I'm pretty certain I won't get the bottom prize. Sticking to one faction meant that I wanted to use this opportunity to grow my Khador. I'll include photos from this coming Thursday's games (one will be against Pirates hopefully, Yarr!), and stick them in this thread.

Introduction

I have a 25 point force and Kommandant (p)Irusk, but my opponent was more keen for larger games (who isn't to be honest) and so we settled on 35 points (it was as large as I could go without just throwing in all the merc solos that I own for no real reason beyond point padding). We set up the table with a big hill in the middle, a linear obstacle beside each objective on the flanks, and a couple of forests about. We rolled up Incursion from the 2014 Steamroller packet and I won the roll of for first (after 2 ties on a 3) and chose to deploy first and go first.

My Force;
Kommandant Irusk (pIrusk)
-Sylys Wyshnalyrr, The Seeker
-Juggernaut

Iron Fang Kovnik
10 Iron Fang Pikemen
-Black Dragon Officer & Standard

Kovnik Jozef Grigorovich
10 Winter Guard Infantry
-Winter Guard Officer & Standard

Greygore Boomhowler & Co.
Reinholdt, Gobber Speculator

His Force;
Thagrosh, Prophet of Everblight
-Carnivean
-Scythean
-Raek
10 Blighted Nyss Legionnaires
5 Blighted Ogrun Warspears
-Warspear Chieftan

Deployment
Mine
-Iron Fang module (unit and kovnik) on my left opposite that flag, Winter Guard module (unit and kovnik) on the right with the Boomhowlers, and my Irusk module (caster, jack, sylys and reinholdt) in the middle.
His
-Legionnaires dropped across from my fangs, his caster and heavies in the centre, warspears opposite my Boomies and Winter Guard (Boomies were preyed) along with the Raek

Turn 1a
Maintenance & Control Phase
-1 focus to the Juggernaut
Activation Phase
-Joe activates and advances a bit, giving the Winter Guard tough and fearless
-Boomhowlers 4+ tough and run
-Winter Guard Infantry run forwards
-Iron Fangs run forwards with their solo following them
-Reinholdt runs forwards
-Irusk puts Iron Flesh on the Winter Guard and Superiority on the Juggernaut before advancing
-Juggernaut runs to toe onto the hill
-Sylys runs up to Irusk
Turn 1b
Maintenance & Control Phase
-Nil
Activation Phase
-Warspears run forwards
-Thagrosh advances, puts Draconic Blessing on the Legionnaires and puts Fog of War up as well as Spiny Growth on himself
-Carnivean advances and puts Spiny Growth on himself
-Scythean advances
-Legionnaires run forwards
-Raek advances
-The flag with his warspears and my Boomhowlers disappears

Turn 2a
Maintenance & Control Phase
-Sylys let me upkeep Superiority for free, and I spent one to upkeep Iron Flesh
-Allocated none
Activation Phase
-Winter Guard Infantry advance and split into two 5 man combined range attacks, with the officer and the standard bearer being too far away to contribute. These targeted one of the Warspears, damaging it for 7 points all up
-Kovnik Joe gives them tough and fearless
-Iron Fang Pikemen shield guard and shuffle into base to base contact
-The Juggernaut moves to contest the flag
-Boomhowler & Co. yell for 4+ Tough and run again, reaching some of the Warspears
-Kommandant Irusk puts inhospitable ground up and advances to toe onto the hill
-Sylys advances beside him, along with Reinholdt
Turn 2b
Maintenance & Control Phase
-Fog of War and Draconic Blessing are upkept
-Fury is reaved in, bringing Thagrosh to full
Activation Phase
-Carnivean assaults the Winter Guard Infantry, getting 4 under the spray but only killing 1, then puts Spiny Growth on himself
-Warspears assault and swing at the Boomhowlers, killing 3 after some good tough rolls
-Scythean shuffles a bit, riling
-Raek advances, jumps and kills 1 Boomhowler after some more awesome tough rolls
-Legionnaires advance, but get held up by Inhospitable Ground
-Thagrosh shuffles to toe onto the hill on his end

Turn 3a
Maintenance & Control Phase
-Sylys let me upkeep Superiority for free
-Iron Flesh dropped
-No focus allocation
Activation Phase
-Iron Fang Kovnik advances and gives shield march to the Iron Fangs
-Sylys gives Arcane Secrets to Irusk
-Reinholdt gives his lucky charm to Irusk
-Irusk fires a Grind at the Carnivean, and I used the lucky charm on the to hit for some reason...no idea why. Anyway, I don't end up damaging it. He also puts Bloodlust on the Iron Fang Pikemen and Feats
-Iron Fang Pikemen advance in shield wall and kill every legionnaire
-Kovnik Joe gives Bear Strength to the Winter Guard
-Winter Guard Infantry charge the Carnivean and put a point or two on it. I hadn't remembered Thagrosh's negative Strength aura. Silly me. One of the models ran to engage Thagrosh, and another ran to engage the Scythean
-Boomhowlers kill a Warspear and damage the Raek
Turn 3b
Maintenance & Control
-Drops Draconic Blessing, upkeeps Fog of War
-Raek frenzies (outside of Thagrosh's control range) and eats a Boomhowler
Activation Phase
-Thagrosh kills the Winter Guard Infantry engaging the Scythean, taking a free strike from the one engaging him. The plucky Guardsman manages to put three points of damage on Thagrosh.
-Scythean fail charges the Juggernaut, getting stuck behind the flag
-Carnivean eats some Winter Guard Infantry and puts Spiny Growth up on himself
-Warspears kill one Boomhowler. My tough rolls were just ridiculous

Turn 4a
Maintenance & Control Phase
-Sylys upkeeps Superiority for free
-3 focus to the Juggernaut
Activation Phase
-Kovnik Joe gives the Winter Guard tough
-Winter Guard activate, fail to damage the Carnivean and re-encircle Thagrosh
-Juggernaut charges the Carnivean and does about half of its health. I missed with my initial fist. Luckily, my initial axe attack hit with a critical. Unluckily, I forgot that effect existed on this model
-Iron Fang Kovnik activates and moves to the flag to control it
-Irusk charges into the Carnivean and does a couple of points of damage. Why? You'll see!
-Iron Fang Pikemen charge in, three getting into the Carnivean, and almost all the rest on the Scythean. They need all but 1 of the guys on the Scythean but manage to kill it. Of the 3 on the Carnivean, one hits for a lot of damage, one hits for decent damage, leaving it on 5 health, aaaaand the last guy misses. Damn. If only I remembered that I had a stationary effect in my army that I had earlier applied to the model I then really needed to hit...Oh well.
Turn 4b
Maintenance & Control Phase
-Drops Fog of War
Activation Phase
-Thagrosh puts Draconic Blessing on the Carnivean, and heals its damaged aspects.
-I'm running out of time, so we decide to activate the Carnivean, see how that goes, then go back to Thagrosh if he fails. He activates the Carnivean and kills Irusk. It takes all four fury, but he puts him down in the end. Good game, shake hands.

Notes
So yeah, that 'I'm not an awful player, so I probably won't get bottom prize', I did just charge Irusk into a Carny, without being certain that I would kill it. I had thought that I would, but I misjudged distances and thought more guys would get in on the Scythean, as well as another 1 or 2 on the Carnivean. But they didn't. Well done me, well done. We both had bad dice (His rolls on Greygore & Co. were particularly amazing. Need a 5? Roll a 4. Need a 6? Roll a 5. Finally get one in? Tough check), and he was a really good bloke about it. We also had a few mulligans, and we both forgot a few things about the rules here or there, but we got the hang of it towards the end. If only I had remembered the crit-stationary on the ice axe. I would have frozen the Carnivean, which would have meant he didn't have that extra fury to put that extra damage point on Irusk...but oh well, I shouldn't have charged him into the Carnivean in the first place, so it's all on me. Still, great fun and I can't wait to get more games for the league going. And I will win some of them. And take pictures. Just wait.

Next is Battle Report 2, with pictures. I changed my style a bit since I was writing this with more of a gap (this was a week and a night ago), but I think I give a good accounting. And it has (not great) pictures.

Khador vs Retribution of Scryah

My list
Kommandant (p)Irusk
-Sylys Wyshnalyrr, The Seeker
-Beast 09
-Conquest
Iron Fang Kovnik
Iron Fank Pikemen
-Black Dragon Officer and Standard Bearer
Kovnik Jozef Grigorovich
Winter Guard Infantry
-Winter Guard Officer and Standard Bearer
Kell Bailoch

His list
(e)Vyros, Incissar of the Dawnguard
-Phoenix
-Griffon
-Griffon
-Griffon
-Griffon
-Griffon
-Griffon
Arcanist
Arcanist
Destor Thane
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution
Dawnguard Invictors
-Invictor Officer & Standard

Deployment
My opponent gets first go. I have played a few games against this guy, and his army is usually the best looking one in the store. This army is mostly unpainted because he is sticking LEDs everywhere. Under shoulders, in weapons, heads, basically everywhere. Hence the 'tail' on one of those Griffons. Similarly, some of them are in a state of disrepair, because they are about to receive the blessing of light. Once this army is done though....damn. It will be glorious. Anyway, he's a good bloke and (in my opinion) a really good player. I haven't managed to beat him (or even come close) before, but I had a good feeling about this game (probably because of the wonderfully painted Storm-quest proxy that I used, which actually belongs to my opponent).

Turn 1a
A smattering of focus from Vyros goes to the Pheonix and the Griffons, with the last two getting focus from the Arcanists
Running up basically everything, Synergy goes up

Turn 1b
Kovnik Joe gives the Winter Guard Infantry Tough and Fearless
Winter Guard Infantry run up into the left zone (my zone)
Irusk puts Superiority on the Conquest, Iron Flesh on the Winter Guard Infantry and he walks up a bit
Conquest advances, pings a few off the Pheonix's shield with a scatter from the main gun, and puts some covering fire out.
Iron Fank Kovnik advances and gives Shield March to the Iron Fang Pikemen
Iron Fang Pikemen advance in shield wall and Iron Zeal
Kell takes two shots at the Destor Thane, doing 1 point of damage twice with sniper
Beast 09 runs up

End of Turn 1 photo. Sorry for the blur in this picture. I am still getting the hang of this whole 'pictures' thing. I'll pay more attention next time.

Turn 2a
Upkeeps Synergy, casts Deflection and hands out some focus
eEiryss aims, doesn't take damage from covering fire (POW 6, really? I wish I had an actual Stormwall...) and knocks Iron Flesh off the Winter Guard Infantry
The Griffon on left flank gets 2 focus, spends 1 for speed boost, 1 to charge and smashes a Winter Guardsman
The Invictors advance, killing two Winter Guardsmen and leaving one knocked down after a passed tough check
The Pheonix advances, kills another and lights one on fire
The Griffon kills another, adding up to 5 dead Winter Guard Infantry, 1 knocked down and 1 on fire

Turn 2b
This is when my opponent realises that he has 1 less Griffon than he should, but he doesn't choose to put one on, instead he just rolls with what he has.
Beast gets 3 Focus, the Conquest gets none
Kell does 1 to the Destor Thane (3 so far)
Beast 09 charges and nearly drops the Pheonix
Conquest shoots, critically devastates Vyros (6,6 to hit), doing 5 damage to him, killing an arcanist with the blast and killing an Invictor with the thrown Vyros
Kovnik Joe gives the Winter Guard tough and fearless again
Winter Guard advance and try and spray Eiryss as well as put a few points on the Griffons nearby, but fail
Irusk advances some, feats, and puts the last bit of damage on the Pheonix with an Arcane-Secret-ed Grind
Iron Fang Kovnik gives the Iron Fang Pikemen shield march
Iron Fang Pikemen advance in shield wall, plinking some damage off the Griffons ahead of them

End of Turn 2 picture

Turn 3a
Griffons kill 1 Winter Guard, knock down one who was outside of feat range, and kill 3 Iron Fang Pikemen between them, putting some damage on Beast 09 as well
eEiryss disrupts Beast 09
The Invictors charge into Beast 09 with flank, and my opponent rolls atrociously. He does a bit of damage to columns 1 and 2, and knocks out 3 and 4, but that's all. I got off very lucky there.

Turn 3b
2 focus to Conquest, upkeeping Superiority
Beast 09 threshers and kills 5 Invictors
Conquest advances into the zone, boosts to hit Vyros, and gets a critical devastation on a double 6 for the second turn in a row. This throws Vyros and eEiryss back, boosting damage on Vyros for another 6 damage, but only doing 4 to the damnable Eiryss
Irusk puts blood lust on the Iron Fang Pikemen
Iron Fang Kovnik Shield marches the Pikemen again, and they advance up and kill one griffon, badly damaging 2 more.
The Winter Guard, in an effort to clear some Invictors, manage to kill one of their fellows instead
Kell does another 2 damage to the Destor Thane (bit by bit)
Joe gives the Winter Guard tough and fearless again. The perceptive of you may begin to discern a pattern here.

End of Turn 3 picture

Turn 4a
Synergy upkept, Deceleration back out
Destor Thane murders two Iron Fang Pikemen
eEiryss drops Superiority off the Conquest
The Griffons kill 3 Iron Fangs and a Winter Guardsman between them
The invictors kill Beast 09, one Iron Fang and the Winter Guard officer

Turn 4b
Irusk puts Superiority back on the Conquest, giving it 3 Focus as well
The Conquest goes to town, with me clean forgetting that he now has +2 MAT. Which means I would have hit more than the once that I did. Ah well, 16 damage in 1 hit to a Griffon, not bad for one hit
Winter Guard kill 1 Invictor
Kell snipes 1 Invictor
The Iron Fang Kovnik advances into contact with the Thane (couldn't charge over the wall), doesn't put him down

End of Turn 4 picture

Turn 5a
He damages the Conquest a decent amount, taking out the entire right side between Invictors and Griffons on the Synergy train
He also puts down 1 Winter Guard with a Griffon prior to the Conquest, and two Iron Fang Pikemen to get the train up to speed before the assault on the Conquest
The Destor Thane murders the Iron Fang Kovnik
eEiryss pulls Superiority off the Conquest again

Turn 5b
Irusk puts 3 Focus on the Conquest, as well as Superiority (again)
Kell kills 2 Invictors engaging the Conquest
The Conquest kills 2 Griffons (I remembered the +2 MAT this time, hooray)
Irusk and Joe combine to kill the Griffon in my zone, and I dominate for 1 CP

End of Turn 5 Picture. This is part way through his turn 6, the Destor Thane should actually be back on his side of the table from Kell, but apart from that it is pretty much spot on.

Turn 6a
eEiryss plinks one wound off Irusk
Destor Thane takes a free strike from Kell that misses, and misses his shot against Irusk
Vyros advances and hits Irusk with one shot, taking over half of his health off. His second shot drops my caster like a sack of potatoes. Alas, poor Irusk, I knew him well. Ok, not well enough to keep him out of that situation, but hey.

End of Game Picture

Post Game
Dammit I was so close I think. So, so close. Yet I am still yet to defeat this player, which is a real shame, because I really thought I had a handle on this game. If I hadn't forgotten the MAT bonus from supremacy I think I would have wrecked a Griffon that turn with 3 focus (or maybe 2 Griffons), and this would have meant I didn't charge Irusk in as I did. But such is life. I came close, played (I think) a decent game by and large, and had a great time.

Things I learned
1) Dammit Irusk, you did that last game as well. Why would you do that twice in a row? What, you blame me for moving you there? Just because you aren't actually capable of bipedal locomotion doesn't mean that you are excused from placing yourself there. But seriously, I need to get a handle on his placement better.
2) The Conquest can both take, and dish out, punishment. I need something to get boxes back though, if I could have repaired that arm I wouldn't have needed to put Irusk up there. I'm thinking a Gobber Tinker, he's 1 point, helps hide Irusk more, and helps me repair. Seems like a good fit, at least theoretically.
3) Get a better handle on when to Iron Zeal. I think I popped it way too early this game, I got scared of the Invictors with their snipe mini feat, and CRAing shield wall'd Iron Fangs into a fine red mist. If I had saved it, he may not have been able to get through them as quickly. Or they may have died anyway. Either way, I think it was too early.

Battle 2; Khador vs Shae's 'A Pirates Life' Tier 4
First off, I have to apologize. I am a lot patchier with images this game, as well as details, as my opponent this time was a funny guy, and we were talking and joking an awful lot. This meant that I ended up forgetting half the pictures. I got some, but not many. Sorry in advance.
My list
Kommandant (p)Irusk
-Sylys Wyshnalyrr, The Seeker
-Conquest
Iron Fang Kovnik
Iron Fank Pikemen
-Black Dragon Officer and Standard Bearer
Kovnik Jozef Grigorovich
Winter Guard Infantry
-Winter Guard Officer and Standard Bearer
Greygore Boomhowler & Co.
-Koldun Kapitan Valachev
Kell Bailoch

His list
Captain Phinneus Shae
-Nomad
-Nomad
-Nomad
Dirty Meg
-Freebooter
-Buccaneer
Lord Rockbottom
First Mate Hawk
Doc Killingsworth
Bosun Grogspar
Sea Dog Boarding Crew
-Mr. Walls, the Quartermaster
Press Gangers
Lady Aiyana & Master Holt
The Commodore Cannon & Crew

Turn 1a
Everyone runs up, sea dogs opposite my IFP, and Press Gangers opposite my Winter Guard Infantry, Shae and his battlegroup central and Dirty Meg and her posse on my left.

Image from end of his Turn 1, also showing my deployment

Turn 1b
My Iron Fangs advanced on the right, with Shield March from the Kovnik and popped Iron Zeal
Irusk advances, kills 1 Press Ganger with Airbust, feats and casts Inhospitable Ground
Winter Guard advance with Bob and Weave
Conquest kills one each of the Sea Dogs and Press Gangers
Kell kills another Sea Dog
Boomies run up to jam, going for 4+ tough

End of Turn 1 image

Turn 2a
Sea Dogs end 2 of the Boomhowlers
Shae chipps in for another dead Boomhowler, putting up Storm Rager as well
The Press Gangers kill a fourth Boomhowler

Turn 2b
My Conquest is moving too slowly. He tries for a shot on Shae, misses and scatters away
Between the Boomhowlers and Winter Guard Infantry, all but 3 Press Gangers die
The Boomhowlers, who got Battle Lust, almost wreck a nomad in addition to the damage dealt to the Press Gangers, and sing for 4+ Tough
The Iron Fang Pikemen get Shield March again, advancing and engaging some of the Sea Dogs, only killing 1
Kell forces some more Tough checks on Sea Dogs

End of Turn 2 Image
Sorry, no picture this turn. Pikemen advanced into the Sea Dogs, Boomhowlers jammed some more and Winter Guard advanced more.

Turn 3a
Shae kills both Boomhowler and Valachev
The Sea Dogs kill one Boomhowler and two Iron Fang Pikemen
A Nomad kills a Boomhowler as well

Turn 3b
Winter Guard Infantry get boosted attack rolls and try and hit Shae, but fail.
Conquest tries to hit Shae, fails.
Iron Fang Pikemen charge over and try and hit Shae, also failing.
I sit there, completely and utterly unaware of Shae's treat range. Hell, I am probably in the threat range of someone like Irusk, let alone a Shae.

End of Turn 3 Image

Turn 4a
The Nomads besides Shae clear away the Boomhowlers and Iron Fang Pikemen in front of him
The Sea Dogs advance and attack the Iron Fang Kovnik, putting him in the dirt
Shae charges in and kills Irusk. Damn.

End of Turn 4 Image
Sorry, I forgot this one because we were all packing up to leave, but it's almost the same, just minus a few Iron Fangs, Boomhowlers, the Kovnik and, oh, another model, I forget...oh yeah. Minus an Irusk. Dammit.

Things that I learned over these games;
1 - Irusk is not a god damn finisher. I made the same mistake last week. If I make the same mistake next week, reach through your screen and slap me. Please. It just might help.
2 - I learnt this one in game 2. Treat Irusk as a 4 FOC caster turn 1, and get Superiority out. Do it. Don't get tempted into an airburst on close pirates, don't get tempted into this or that, just get Superiority out. Just. Do. It.
3 - Learn when to feat and iron zeal. I think that, both games, I used Iron Zeal far too early and while I'm unsure on the first game, on the second game I definitely should have popped my feat a turn or 2 later.

Cool reports mate, how is Irressitible force as a venue anyway? I keep meaning to take a trip there and have a stickybeak some time, just to see what it's like. I do like the look of those zone markers, really have to make some up for my club (we play up in Annerley, a fair bit north of IF).

Looking for a club in Brisbane, Australia? Come and enjoy a game and a beer at Pubhammer, our friendly club in a pub at the Junction pub in Annerley (opposite Ace Comics), Sunday nights from 6:30. All brisbanites welcome, don't wait, check out our Club Page on Facebook group for details or to organize a game. We play all sorts of board and war games, so hit us up if you're interested.

Pubhammer is Moving! Starting from the 25th of May we'll be gaming at The Junction pub (AKA The Muddy Farmer), opposite Ace Comics & Games in Annerley! Still Sunday nights from 6:30 in the Function room Come along and play Warmachine, 40k, boardgames or anything else!

Thanks, are the annerley games at ace comics? Or somewhere else. It's a pretty good spot, decent space, terrain, circular and rectangular zones, etc. Nice guys by and large, and 15 or so there on a Thursday at the moment during the league, but it had dropped to about 7-10 before the league. That could have been because of the time of term, a few of the guys are teachers.

Next up, pIrusk v pKreuger. Lightning? Pah. In the Khadoran Empire, lightning is struck by you! At least that was the plan...

Just across the road from Ace comics actually - The Junction pub, on Sunday nights We've just had a journeyman league with about 8 players, though it fluctuated a fair bit over the course of it (mostly due to Uni assignment/exam blocks).

As for Irusk, I'd say you need to baby him more It's my biggest weakness too really, every time I play pKreoss I always put him too far forward trying to get the most out of my feat, or do something cool, and then *splat*, oh yeah, crappy defense stats....

Ah nice, I should come by at some point when I'm not working Sundays, sounds like it'd be good fun.

I've finished the write up for another game, vs Circle, but I have to wait until my internet stops having a heart attack to upload the photos for it. Hopefully by then I'll have my Menoth and Cygnar games up too. I'm playing against a really good spread of armies so far.

League Battle Report 4
Ok, so this game has some magical notes. You see, they were there, on my desk, and *poof* they disappeared in a flash of...clutter. I lost them. But happily, I took a bunch of pictures, so I can do a pretty accurate memory recovery from them. Huzzah.

My list, which hopefully isn't getting boring yet

-Druid Wilder
Shifting Stones
-Stone Keeper
Shifting Stones
Bloodtrackers (10)
-Nuala the Huntress
Gallows Grove
Gallows Grove
Gatorman Witch Doctor

He won first turn, we played the same scenario as the first two times (I know, riveting. I hadn't yet downloaded the Steamroller 2014 pack, so I was just doing the one that I knew that wasn't Incursion). Then deployment happened. Oh, the Cygnar Jacks are Objectives, and the Wreck Marker is a functional Conquest. I'm sorry, but the model hadn't arrived at the store yet. I'm assembling it now, so games 5 & 6 sadly aren't including the Conquest (well, they have it's base and gun, since I got it that afternoon), but next week he should be there, as long as my magnets arrive in time :S

Turn 1 (Circle)
Running and advancing forwards by and large
Stones teleported Megalith up twice
Zombify goes onto the Bloodtrackers, who preyed Boomhowler and Co

Circle Turn 1 Image

Turn 1 (Khador)
Running everything and Iron Zeal on Iron Fang Pikemen
Superiority on Conquest, which floats a shot onto the Feral Warpwolf and Megalith, damaging the Feral Warpwolf a bit. It then puts covering fire in front of the Bloodtrackers, so that they'll suffer a hit engaging the Boomhowlers.
Boomhowlers sing for 4+ tough

Khador Turn 1 Image

Turn 2 (Circle)
Kreuger put Lightning Tendrils on Bloodtrackers and Chain Lightning into the Winter Guard Infantry, killing 3. He then feated, placing clouds in front of the Iron Fangs, and one in front of the Winter Guard Infantry
Bloodtrackers charged the Boomies killing 6, lose 1 to covering fire
Megalith geomancied Chain Lightning into Winter Guard Infantry, killing 3
Feral Warpwolf gets tossed into the zone by the stones

Circle Turn 2 Image

Turn 2 (Khador)
Shield March from Iron Fang Kovnik
Irusk advances towards my right flank, toeing onto the hill, and feats, also putting Battle Lust on the Iron Fang Pikemen
Conquest activates and gets critical devastation, throwing Megalith back into a stone, shattering it and damaging Megaltih, as well as throwing Krueger back a bit and doing some decent damage to him (7 from memory? It was a hefty amount for blast damage). Chest guns try and put some shots into the Bloodtrackers, but no luck.
The Iron Fang Pikemen activate, advancing through the clouds in shield wall (man I wish I had held onto Iron Zeal). Because of some tricky shuffling, I managed to get almost all to advance into the cloud while in B2B with another model in the unit, meaning that I only lost 1 to the zapping circles, and another one KD'd and toughing (allowing more guys to sling off his shield into the cloud, so it actually worked out pretty well). I got a few into the Feral Warpwolf and did a chunk of damage, knocking out 2 spirit and body in the end.
Winter Guard activate and advance, trying to put some damage on the Bloodtrackers but failing.
Boomhowlers ran/charged up, doing some damage, Valachev tagging some of the Bloodtrackers with his spray, all up killing 2, KD'ing another 2. They also sing for 4+ Tough.

Khador Turn 2 Image
No picture this turn, sorry. Imagine the IFP advancing on the Feral, and the Boomhowlers getting closer to the Bloodtrackers.

Turn 3 (Circle)
He shifts the grove over to deny tough on a few Boomhowlers
The Bloodtrackers then murder all but Boomhowler himself and Valachev
Krueger heals the Feral for 1 (Spirit back up) and then casts Lightning Tendrils on it. He puts Skyborne back up
The Feral Warpwolf forces for 1 to heal its body and another circle, then eats a whole bunch of the Iron Fangs, leaving them with 5 remaining in the unit, including the banner.
Megalith puts his animus up, and geomancies some more lightning into the Winterguard, leaving just one bloke, the Officer and the Standard to go.

Circle Turn 3 Image
No picture again, sorry. Imagine there being a chunk less Boomies, Iron Fangs and Winter Guard.

Turn 3 (Khador)
I see that my opponent has a scenario victory in the offing, and start to panic. Instead of running the Conquest over to contest it, I start derping.
I try and fire a shot from the Conquest into Megalith, doing another chunk of damage (after deciding Krueger was too hard to hit).
Irusk gives Battle Lust to the Iron Fang Kovnik, who charges down off the hill and nails the Feral Warpwolf for its remaining health (P+S 12 +5D6 damage was definitely odds on to do it).
The Iron Fang Pikemen charge the Skyborne Krueger but miss their attacks (needed 11s or something to hit from memory, no real chance), banner running to try and block the tree from getting too close to Irusk for a spell assassination of some kind
Boomhowler sings 4+ tough and prays to his gods
Winter Guard walk around and take some more shots, missing
Joe runs towards the enemy zone

Khador Turn 3 Image

Turn 4 (Circle)
Bloodtrackers kill Valachev, but fail to kill Boomhowler. They also kill a Winter Guardsman.
Megalith activates and crushes two of the Iron Fang Pikemen jamming up Krueger
Druid Wilder kills the last of the Iron Fang Pikemen jamming Krueger
Krueger activates, puts Skyborne up, advancing towards Irusk. He takes a shot, boosts and misses, then he casts a chain lightning, but misses. With no fury on him, my opponent concedes. I point out that he could have gone for the scenario, and he curses. He hadn't played in a month or two, and was a bit rusty, so he'd missed it.

Turn 4 (Khador)
Game ended at the end of last turn when he conceded. His caster had no transfers and had already suffered some blast damage, so Conquest would have ended it, or Irusk or the Iron Fang Kovnik, or the remaining Pikemen, or...yeah, you get it, he made a fair call.

It was a really fun game, and quite brutal for an infantry heavy list. I mean, just look at this dead pile, zoiks!

Things I learned
1. Don't forget about the scenario. I had completely forgotten, and while Conquest would have been able to toe in to try and stop a win happening, it would have been damn dicey stuff from that point on, basically praying that he didn't scrap it in one turn, thus letting me start scoring in his zone. It would have been a lot closer than the end that happened.
2. Try and camp some. I relied on the hill to keep Irusk safe, and while it worked out, I think I would have been better off with at least some extra armour as well. I had to put him there as bait, but it was a terrible idea really, I should have kept him back, run conquest over, and started the grind. I guess the rate I was losing infantry had me scared I'd be left with Irusk and a Conquest in another turn.
3. Get some damn painting done, my army looks terrible at the moment. I got the Kovniks (Joe and Iron Fang) done by this week, but I need to try and get one a day done.
4. Stop wasting Iron Zeal. Come on.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...
