So what else does the vet do other than just boost leadership?

Armies I'm piddling with:
SM - Storm Giants
CSM - Crimson Slaughter
KDK - The Wrath

If you don't have a copy of the codex, it should be on top of your things to buy list. While we can offer all sorts of advice, Dakka is not a substitute for owning the rules.

Vets get more attacks, so are a good investment for squads you expect to get into CC. The leadership is a nice boost for staying on the field where you want them. I'm not sure if it's worth the points, but I got used to them in the last codex where they were included in the price of each squad. If you are investing in a power weapon of some sort, I'd spring for the vet upgrade as well. Defiantly in the assault squad.

Veterans in their own squad a whole other kettle of fish, and how to use and equip them has filled whole threads.

I hear you, yeah I got the 6th rule book that I purchased like 3 months ago... go figure right.

But I got the codex but it's so damn confusing trying to read it because the stuff is spread all over the place. Such as when it said in a squad of 10 you can take one weapon off the special weapons list and one off the heavy weapons list. Well when you try to find where said list are there isn't even anything in the book with a list of special weapons lol.

So this is just me clearing things up, the only thing I saw in the codex about the vet was that it raised leadership, didn't even read anything about extra attacks.

Codex layout is a mess, no arguments here. Page 159 has all the weapon upgrade charts. You'll be flipping to it a lot.

The "A" value of 2 for the vet sarge is his attacks. Most of the game is the same between 6th and 7th edition. A few things got tweaked, but most of the core concepts have been the same for years.
