I gotta say I'm still a bit floored that Relic took the time to bring all their old Dawn of War titles online multiplayer capabilities back up and running after Game Spy took a dive, but I gotta say it doesn't quite like it once was, or from what I've heard and read what it once was anyway.

Twofold are my thoughts on this:

1 - The service seems... patchy at best in my honest opinion, games for some reason seem to "speed up" after about 10 minutes of play (if they even make it that far, read below), like someone bumped it up from normal to fast when I wasn't looking. Also in this same vain the games tend to "hang" sometimes, too the point that Soulstorm will outright crash, error report and all atleat 1 out of 5 games.

2 - Secondly I really feel coming into this so many years after it's release and just prior to it's resurrection in online play that as decent, casual player I'm constantly pitted against hard core DoW nuts who see what faction I'm playing and immediately turn to the page in their "big book of fragin' noobz" on exactly how to counter me with the faction I choose and the map we are on, before I even know what the hell is going on, and I must say that frustrating and not fun for me at all, adding in the above points about "match quality" from a technical standpoint.

So am I the only one annoyed by this?

Yes.

DoW is a pretty old game. Any kind of support is amazing. Expecting to step into the environment with people that have played it for years and be just as good is stupid. There won't really be anybody new playing that game now.

At least you have service. Netstorm doesn't any more :/

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Holy crap, there's someone else who still knows Tetris in the skies...I mean Netstorms. Amazing. Such an underestimated game!

Not been on it since its been moved from Gamespy, will have a look later, but as it's an old game the majority of those that still play it are hardened veterans.

Join the All Welcome games if there are any or make your own and set teams to Random.

There were a few newish players on the last time I played, so there are still some about.

No pity, no remorse, no shoes

It was the first game I ever played online.

I still have a working copy on my computer, that I'm just too nostalgic to delete. Helps that it's like... less than fifty megs anyway.

Those of Thunder still fall to Icy Skies, nothing beats the regenerating walls!

Ice was badass, no doubt. Sun was always neglected, though quite useful in support of any of the other elements.

That was it's purpose though, it was the 'basic' race that led to the three more advanced paths of wind, ice, and thunder.

It had no real weaknesses, but no strengths beyond being a bit more versatile then the three (Though not as versatile as wind), and cheaper.

But it was always a wonderful support element for the three.
