Buy a whirlwind. And an ac predator

I'd also swap out at least 1 plasma gun for a plasma cannon and I'd also give the techmarine a diff gun. He has a bolt pistol natively and that's a waste of time since he doesn't benefit from the extra cc attack it offers. Since he already has an assault weapon (fusion cuter) he could benefit from a storm bolter

This leaves you with 10pts to spend somewhere, I'm thinking give a tactical squad a combi weapon or a hb/mm

That sounds good but why a whirlwind what is so useful about the gun?

the whirlwind is great for rooting out anything that tries to dig in to cover since its an ignores cover large blast. Also when gun are you asking about?

The gun for the whirlwind was what I was asking about. What is the stats for it again? I don't know if that fits with my list because everything in my army is aggressive.

str 4 ap3 large blast, ignores cover, and str 3 ap4 large blast, ignores cover, pinning.

It has something like a 48" range in both shots so it can target pretty much anywhere it has los from the comfort of your deployment zone.

This is our only hard counter to a gunline army like tau or SoB.

It's also a great way at killing big blobs of generic troops like guardsmen, boyz, and hormagaunts

Those are not the stats for the whirlwind launcher. It is either Str5 AP 4, or Str4 AP5 ignores cover.
They are fine vs blobs, but are pretty poor vs anything with a 3+ save. If your army has an SoD banner then most of the time you won't be needing it.

Howver, I'm not sure about the SoD in this list. It works ok with the landraider, the tacticals on the other hand won't be able to move and fire move than 12 per turn which handicaps them. If you are going to use it then you will have to make it more worthwhile.

Why all the plasma? Your list is very limited with regards to anti tank. At the moment all you have is a predator, a single mm on the tank and the DW knights (who will struggle vs lists with multiple walkers). Maybe change some plasmas for meltas.

I would be tempted to get another landraider. As a rule of thumb, things work best in twos.

The standard of devastation can be used the next turn after the tacticals get out. The plasma was because all my models are dv but that was just me being lazy. Do you think I should keep the whirlwind? If you could please post a list with your edits, thanks again man.

If you took something else out you could fit another identical tactical squad in , if you're into tactical spam.

Personally I'd take the techmarine out. Then I think you've got enough points for another tactical and the SOD on the ravenwing, which can give all your 40 tactical marines double the amount of shots.

The standard of devastation can be used the next turn after the tacticals get out.

Sure, but they are left sitting there for a turn, possibly out of range. What this means is that your army really has very low damage output until turn 3 at least. I don't like the SoD with tac squads because of its inflexibility, some people do however.

If you are dead set on using the SoD banner, and have 2 assault units in the army, then I wouldn't bother with the whirlwind. You will either grind up units in the open with bolters or assault them out of cover.

Librarian
Command squad - SoD
Techmarine - PFG

Tac squad x5 meltagun
Tac squad x5 meltagun -Rhino
Tac squad x5 meltagun -Rhino
Tac squad x5 meltagun -Rhino

Deathwing Knights x5

LRC - DWV, MM
LRC - DWV, MM
LRC - DWV, MM

Something like this might be fun. It gives your SoD more impact all game.

Is there a list with maybe only 2 land raiders. So much money to spend.

Tbh I'm not convinced by the concept. Tac marines with the SoD are too inflexible for my liking. They will be great vs orks or nids, but suck badly vs eldar and tau (more so than normal vs these top tier armies, as they can outrange you and force your marines to move. This will make you play their game, and not your own).

I would say that if you want to use landraiders with SoD, it will fit more naturally into a ravenwing list.

The sod would be mostly used for the land raider crusader. I dont want to go full fledge ravenwing but i do have 3 ravenwing bikes w/ plasma gun and attack bike i also have 6 blk knight and a shroud.

Is it really worth it for 1 tank though? Not to mention the fact that it renders you command squad immobile and quite predictable whilst you want it to take effect.

If you aren't making a sizable portion of your list around it then I would leave it at home.

So i just created a new list:

Libby w/pfg
Techmarine w/servo harness and pfg
Command squad all bolters with sod

Deathwing knights w/ lrc mm and dw vehicle

10 man tac squad melta w/ rhino
10 man tac squad melta w/ rhino
5 man tac squad ml w/ razorback twin lascannons

6 black knights with one nade launcher

Pred w/ all lascannons

I really want to keep the command squad with the sod because I spent a lot of time making them purty. The predator would stay back with the razorback and shoot and if needed the razorback can move up with the rhinos
