The only use for the red plastic measuring stick is whipping cheaters right on their fat cheating fingers when they try to move models too far.

Yeah. We just call it the whippy stick and hit cheaters with them.

I do but am gradually moving towards measuring tapes because it's hard to see the markings sometimes under dim light.

I have done in the past.

Good idea to make sure your opponent is also using one, to keep things even though, as the measurements on them aren't actually full inches.

What what? Good thing I bring two to every game (love me my whippy sticks - and players who "volunteer" to be whipping posts) but is it the case that they are not even measurements?

I find two of them parallel on my side of the table during set=up are great for drawing the line across the end of my DZ

Don't tell me I may have been shaving off a few millimitres !

P.S.A. I won't read your posts if you break it into a million separate quotes and make an eyesore of it.

Yup. Either whoever designed them thought that 25mm-ish was close enough to an inch that nobody would care, or the plastic they use for them shrinks a little when it sets.

Of course, I haven't checked in a few years... it's possible that they noticed and corrected this at some point.

TY for the heads up, did not think to check. Typical GW cutting corners in their ever-present quest for our dollars

The whippy sticks are too short for me. I prefer a tape measure so I don't have to Sesame-Street measure when I want to turbo-boost my jet bikes.

I use mine. The cats think they are great fun.

On the table, however, I use a tape measure (or 4).

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

They're great for marking out the edge of the deployment zones, especially during the awkward diagonal deployment type.

This. My cat claimed a whippy stick and a half when he was a kitty. Still has them.

I've found them too flexible for that purpose myself.

A better solution is to grasp a cat by its tail and hold it upside down behind your head.

It's nice to keep a red measury stick handy when you're playing, and go ahead and snap it if you get frustrated or need to get attention. It's totally worthless anyway, and will create some interesting looks on your opponents faces when you snap it in half.

I don't think anybody actually uses those things for measuring.

Not just cheaters.

Also small untrained children who think they can pick up other people's models without first asking permission AND HAVING IT GRANTED.

"NO!" accompanied by the thwack of the red stick has disciplined many an uncultured oik offspring around these parts. If you do it right it doesn't even leave a mark.
(It's preferable to shooting them, no? We aren't allowed to have handguns here anyway. )

This really is the most productive thing I've ever done with them. Come to think of it, there might not even have been a rules dispute, we just wanted something to do with the sticks.

As Jervis Johnson once said, a gamer's tapemeasure is like a cowboy's pearl-handled Colt revolver; it'll stand by you, be there when you need it, and never let you down. And when it comes down to it, you can kill the other guy before he kills you.... ok, I may have overdone the metaphor a little

I thought that is what the BRB was for. To hit the cheaters over the head with, since the BRB is so big and thick.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Red whippy sticks are definitely for whipping cheaters.

Wouldn't it be better to not tell the cheater of their activities and instead put the dread on top of a door for when they leave?
