Fething Steam Sales

I'm glad my first mech suit "volunteer" was wounded at the time; made me slightly less sad at what we had to to...

So far I have picked up Crusader Kings 2, the Metro series, Plague Inc Evolved, one of the State of Decay DLCs, and Age of Wonders 3.

The only things I am still looking at are Banished and Tropico 5 if they go on to have a decent discount, which I am doubting.

I think the real issue is that only so many good games are released every year. And after a couple of years of Steam sales, most people have already picked up the older classics. So they get ignored (for obvious reasons).

I picked up Saints Row IV a couple of days ago. Mirror's Edge is currently up for just $5. Fallout: New Vegas is currently going for less than $7. The issue with those games isn't that they're boring games. The issue with them is that most people who might be interested in them already have them (I already own the latter two, although my copy of Mirror's Edge is the 360 version). If they weren't willing to pay retail, then they got them at the previous Summer Sale instead. I think the real issue is that the Summer Sale has just been too successful.

Banished is remarkably dull. It has a reputation for being difficult but once you have basic food production up and running all you have to do is rebuild after natural disasters and attempt to collect all the crops. Most things that have had dailies should turn up again on the last day.

I have hardly bought anything this year. Planetary Annihilation, Skyrim DLC, and Age of Empires II, about £15-20 in all. I am at the stage now where I already own most of the games that I am interested in (and more than a few that I'm not).

I bought Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. I'd been waiting for that to go on sale. $3 seems like a good deal.

I have to agree. My first steam sale, just after I got my new computer last year, was an amazing sale. I bought tons of stuff. The one after that was almost as good. This one? Well I pretty much have everything I want... so none of it is really necessary.

I do take umbrage with Early Access games going up on sale though. We shouldn't be buying incomplete games.

I'm new to the Steam Sales. I'll say that this one seems pretty hit or miss. I did pick up some amazing games for cheap (both Metro games, Skyrim w/DLC, X-Com, and Payday 2 for $38 total)...but half of the time, I wasn't interested in anything listed.

And to clarify, when I mentioned I was disappointed, that was at the current games listed. I won't say that the sale has been "bad" per say, but that I just haven't been interested. Hell, some of the games they put up on the second/third day of the sale actually had terrible reviews from users and critics.

That's normal. It's when you've got all the good games that things start to get dull.

I have to tell myself that buying a really cheap PC version of, say, Arkham Origins or Mortal Kombat isn't a good reason to buy the game again.

This is my first steam sale, though I play mostly consoles. I'm having a blast with some of the indie games like Don't Starve, FTL, etc.

So I guess its just all relative.

I've only gotten 1 game so far (Space Hulk) as anything else on my wish list hasn't popped up as a daily or flash sale. I can wait till the 30th for the few games I want to get as low as possible. Outside that I haven't been getting games just because they are cheap.

Steam Sale ends on the 30th, meaning on the 30th it is no more. You don't wait 'til the 30th only to find it ended a few hours earlier.

I've been very conservative with my money aswell, but I'm just holding on until the final day. All the games I want are mostly under 3€, so I'm just waiting to see if any show up in a community / daily / flash until the final day.

Nah, I just haven't been in the mood for the AAA titles. It seems I'm getting much, much, much more fun from the indie games lately. It's being refreshing.

See I don't understand that. AAA isn't a genre. Neither is "indie".

Steam sales actually lost to my PS plus subscription oddly enough, since they don't offer a lot of the Jap games I was interested in like Persona 4 Golden or Arena. Plus I got stuff like Bioshock Infinite as a free game from them a while ago.

Yeah but then you're stuck playing Bioshock Infiniate on a console.

I am waiting for a much higher than 50% discount. I would pony up for a 75% off or more version just to kick it around a bit.


So far I am really diggin' Age of Wonders. Plague Inc is basically a mobile game but it's fun to while away an hour or two exterminating humanity, and the different types of diseases change up gameplay enough to make repeated playthroughs interesting. Haven't installed Metro yet or tried the State of Decay endless mode DLC.

If anyone likes space games or 4xs I can recommend Endless Space. It's pretty solid.

Has anyone tried Blackguards? That interests me.

I usually prefer the PC myself but what's all this PC master race crap I hear about all the time. I mean really if you want a good gauge of the gamers you play against just figure into the game's intelligence and what audiences they appeal to.

If you play call of duty or halo watch out for 13 year olds with no restrictions on the F-word whereas with more complicated games like deus ex would have a better crowd though it might have BDSM fetishists and people that think corporations, lung cancer (smoking) and hookers go together like peanut butter and jelly. So in a sense cyber-punk is like if grand theft auto was more thought provoking and futuristic possibly (well sorta). Oh and then you have the JRPG group that is pretty much the same thing as the anime crowd. I won't get into it much but they probably have mouse pads with anime boobs to rest your wrist on and a pillow case of their favorite naked waifu or something. Yeah....

Hum, it's just a convenient way to distinguish between major titles made by a large team and other more unknown titles made by a smaller team.

I never said it wasn't.

Why PC players cling to being the "master race" is that I am a god with mouse and keyboard, then play the same game on console with a controller and wandered around getting beat up at every turn... was like I was drunk. For button mashing, a controller cannot be beat (as well as maneuvering) but looking around and acquiring targets without aim assist is BRUTAL. Mouse just kills it for speed and precise aim.

So... I have an appreciation for the hardships mortals face.
