I recently played against a vanilla SM player. He placed a chapter master with the armor indomitus relic along with a devastator squad (4 plasma cannons) in a drop pod.

He claims that because the armor indomitus confers relentless to the chapter master, his squad should also get relentless and be able to fire the plasma cannons immediately after disembarking.

I'm pretty sure that's wrong but I got flustered and wasn't able to come up with solid reasoning. What would you say in that situation?

Does the Relentless USR say it confers to the unit?

A similar special rule works like he says, Slow and Purposeful.
Relentless doesn't. That's all in the special rules themselves though

Works in 30k leagion lists though.

You can take cataphacti armor for your praetor and attach them to the Heavy support (devastator) squads giving them slow and purposeful.

As an even further bonus, those guys aren't limited to 4 heavy weapons.

Slow and Purposeful != Relentless. Yes, S&P works. Relentless doesn't in either 30k or 40k.

Solid reasoning = look up the rule. In fact, the onus is on him, not you. If someone claims they can do something, they're the one that has to show you they can. It's not on you to dig through books to find a reason they can't (especially since no ruleset ever is written to work that way).

When the subject of the thread is Relentless, everyone else was talking about Relentless and how it's different from S&P, and you said "Works in 30k [legion] lists though."
The implication being, of course, that attaching a Relentless model to a squad would give them all S&P in 30k.

no, i was acctually just proposing an alternative to what he wanted since the question itself was already asked.
