Hello all, Yeah I know this werewolf thing has been beaten like a dead horse, but I thought I'd try and hopefully find something new since it was last asked over a year ago. Here is what i found researching. With all the desire for werewolf that fit on 40mm base you'd think someone would have made some classic werewolves.
In the forum search many of the links were out of date and did not work. So I'm looking for any additional information.
What I Know:
Rackham (OOP)
Hoards (not my style of werewolves)
Raging Heros (female werewolves from Kickstarter)
Mantic (Right size have a lack of fur for my taste)
Heresy Miniatures (Good mini seems kinda small)
Otherworld Miniatures (Good mini seems kinda small) I ordered one to gauge its size
Reaper (mixed feelings about avaliable sculpts and small)
Dungeons and Dragons old metal various producers (OOP one really good sculpt, most horrible products of thier time I guess)
Dungeons and Dragons plastic pre painted (low detial quality and mixed feeling about sculpts)
Bolt Action (Nazi werewolf)
Empire of the Dead (not great sculpts)
Taban Fantasy Football (neat sculpt except with a football)
Forgeworld (great poses but skin hanging off them is really not my thing)

Have you looked at the Forgeworld Skinwolves?

Nice models, and not a bad price for 3 nicely detailed resin miniatures.

The Rackham metal Wulfen may be OOP and hard to find, but the plastics are pretty good and with a bit of cleanup (somtimes they were painted over noticable mold lines) they can look quite nice. Also, they are multipart (some of them are jointed) so they are easy to break at the joins and reposition.
Miniatures market still has tons them for blowout prices
http://www.miniaturemarket.com/table-top-miniatures/confrontation/wolfen-of-yilla.html
For mine, I just rebased them, repositioned a few (the heads look better when angled a bit more upwards and I moved some of the arms for better ranking) painted the blue tatoos red (but otherwise left the paint as-is), and brush-dipped them.
Not going to win any painting awards, but they look pretty great on the tabletop, and they are just about the fastest models-to-table I've ever had. These are the "Hunter" Wulfen from the starterbox, which are thought to be the worst of the line in terms of painting and mold lines, but at about a buck each, I figured it was worth a shot and I'm glad I did.

I want those models, but I want to paint them. I just want the sculpts. Oh god I want those as gray plastic sculpts.

There's no reason you can't paint them. You don't even need to strip the old paint off. I've over-painted many prepainted figs and they come out just fine.
Just clean up the mold lines reposition if/as desired and paint.

Touche. What material are they made out of?

I'm not sure exactly. It's not as hard as GW and has some flexibility. However, it's stiffer than PVC minis (bones, mage knight, etc) and will snap if pushed too far. It's definitely not a polystyrene, as it appears that cyanoacrylate (superglue) was used to put the parts together. On the plus side, that means it's relatively easy to break the models into their component parts for repositioning.Sorry I can't be more specific.
I like the sculpts, but I've seen the metal originals and the detail of the plastic isn't quite as nice. Of course, the metal originals were really a cut above most everything else at the time, so YMMV. If you google it, there's a few examples of repainted Confrontation models around, but not many. Here's a discussion I had about this with some TMP'ers last year.

What makes you think a 'classic' werewolf should be something at twelve scale feet tall that needs a 40mm base...?
