Hello, I can check the page number later after work but I didnt find a current thread on this. Me and some friends were having a four way match and it was our first try with new rule book--my friend was looking through stuff and pointed out where it said that independant characters cannot join a unit in reserves. Since the character cannot join the unit that would mean they cannot join them and confer the rule like people do with a wolf priest to outflank bloodclaws. Has anyone else noticed this? I've been seeing other threads in tactics reccommending things outflanking but with this rule interpretation is is nolonger possible.

The underlined is never said in the rulebook.

Yes it is.
Page 166, Independent Characters.
5th paragraph (ignoring the fluffy one), 2nd sentence.
He cannot join a unit that is in reserves

That restriction is made so IC's cannot hop units while in reserves. They can still be joined to units in reserve, you just have to state it as the unit goes into reserve.

First paragraph under "joining..." States otherwise.

Read the context of what that paragraph is talking about, which is an already deployed on the table IC. That IC cannot join a unit that is in reserves.

I am aware.
An IC cannot join a unit in reserve. He may start the game in reserve attached to a unit.
The wording can make a huge difference for anyone reading,

You sir are correct, I scoured it and was trying to figure out where he saw that, only thing I can think of is he must have been pointing to P. 166 paragraph 4, but even though it says they cant its pretty clear in paragraph 1 that they mean for them to be in the units, im very happy that it hasnt changed hahaha
