The latest federal report, according to the news, seems to favor the pipeline:

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/01/us/politics/report-may-ease-way-to-approval-of-keystone-pipeline.html?_r=0

There is some controversy, however, due to some of the people who put it together.

According to Fox news the report says there is more danger to not having the pipeline:

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/06/11/federal-reports-warn-dangers-to-human-life-environment-in-rejecting-keystone/

According to the Washington Times there is still opposition from Reid:

http://p.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/jun/18/senate-panel-clears-bill-build-keystone-xl-pipelin/?page=2

This report makes me wonder if Reid's opposition is more along the lines of trying to save the majority the Democrats have than enviornmental concerns:

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/06/29/election-year-fears-slow-senate-work-to-halt/#

Then again, it's not like Reid doesn't have a dog in the fight:

Is that still the environmental impact study that on the surface says "there is no negative impact" but when you read it you actually find that it says "oh yeah, the pipeline will feth gak up, but gak is going to get fethed up by somebody somehow anyway so we might as well be the ones who actually feth it up"?

And the Reid thing is getting fething stupid. We could post how every single Republican will somehow benefit personally from the pipeline because they have some investment in energy, construction, etc and how any vote in favor of the pipeline will be a giant conflict of interest because big energy donated to the PAC that ran adds to get them elected.

But we all know it would be a complete waste of all our time...

Initial link is the study released in January, so yeah it's the bs report.

It's not stupid when there's a good chance Reid is letting his potential for personal profit influence how he acts.

Because that is totally 100% sure as hell not happening with a single damn conservative in support of building this thing.

Yeah, it is stupid.

If you discount Reid's family's financial involvment in other energy endeavors altogether, it is a mistake.

It's glaring how you ignore things..

http://www.opensecrets.org/industries/indus.php?ind=E01

I tried to find the report that says "people will get hurt and die" if we don't build this thing. But every article just links to another article without ever actually linking to the actual report or explaining how they came to that conclusion.

But at least pipelines are so much safer...

One has to think about how much more of a footprint there would be if all of that were moved by rail.

The Keystone reminds me of all the argument about the Alaska pipeline before it was built. To hear it told, Alaska was going to slide into the ocean under an oil slick.

Looks like it doesn't matter anymore. Canada got tired of the bs and said screw it, we'll send it to Asia instead:
http://bigstory.ap.org/article/canada-oks-oil-pipeline-pacific-coast

New pipeline approved to ship the oil to the coast and off to Asia for refining instead.

We'll see how this plays in the upcoming elections. The pipeline is safer than other means of oil transportation, but it appears Obama and Reid jacked the deal up for everyone.

Good to see that oil going to China instead. Another victory for environmentalists.

The Northern Gateway pipeline and the Keystone pipeline are different projects, the plan was to have both pipelines serving both markets, besides if Canada pulled out of the Keystone it would be front page news across the country and no major news agency in Canada i s running this story.

Yeah, I checked, and these are two separate pipelines and the construction of one doesn't seem to be a coffin nail for the other as far as I can tell.

Further, I'm baffled people still haven't noticed Line 67 (probably because it doesn't have a fancy name like Keystone);

Based on the initial design, Line 67 (known as the Alberta Clipper Pipeline) has the ability to transport up to 800,000 barrels-per-day (bpd). Phase I of the capacity expansion was approved by the National Energy Board in February 2013 to increase the pipeline capacity from 450,000 bpd to 570,000 bpd. Construction began in June 2013.

Phase II is the final expansion project in order to meet the Alberta Clipper Pipeline capacity target. Construction activity will take place within or immediately adjacent to existing Enbridge stations or terminal properties.

In Alberta:

Hardisty Terminal project work includes electrical work and upgrading an existing metering system within the facility boundaries

In Saskatchewan:

Cactus Lake and Herschel Pump Stations project work includes installation of four new pumps, electrical work and a new substation at both stations.
Loeburn, Bethune, Odessa and Lanbank Pump Stations project work includes installation of three new pumps, electrical work and a new substation at each of the stations.

In Manitoba:

West Souris Pump Station project work includes installation of four new pumps, electrical work and a new substation.
St Leon Pump Station project work includes installation of three new pumps, electrical work and a new substation.

Enbridge received approval from the National Energy Board (NEB) on February 10, 2014 to proceed with the Phase II expansion. Over the coming months Enbridge will continue to work with appropriate provincial authorities to meet their requirements. Pending these regulatory approvals, work at the above mentioned Enbridge properties is expected to take approximately 15 months.

The Canadian portion of Line 67 is 1,078 kilometres, transporting crude oil from our Hardisty Terminal in Alberta southeast to our Gretna Station in southern Manitoba. Line 67 then connects at the international border to the U.S. portion of the system and continues to Superior, Wisconsin.

It's just as big as the Keystone Pipeline (in terms of volume transported), which is already being built anyway, and will be eventually completed when the political parties are done gaming over it. But I suppose we need something to rage over.

The Red, Yellow, and Blue lines are already in various stages of completion. I think the job market will survive the Green one taking a few more years.
