So with the changes to the Psychic phase in 7th I thought I may try playing around with a Sorcerer as my CSM HQ. Can't decide which disciplines to roll on - tempted by both Biomancy and Telepathy or go Crimson Slaughter and the Divination relic.
Any thoughts guys on what has worked well for you?

A lot depends on your army, the build for your sorcerer, and his role,
If he is buffing shooting units, divination is good. If buffing cc unit telepathy for invis or biomancy for endurance both have merrit.

Am thinking of running him with a blob of MoN Bikers but keeping him unmarked.
The rest of the army consists of cultists and Oblits!

And the reason to keep him unmarked is to give him a Discipline Mastery; great for maxing out on the chance to get the good powers you want.

Absolutely - and Telepathy's Primaris is pretty neat!

Biomancy is ok but imo wastes spells with buffs that only work on the caster. Telepathy is still is the most generically useful for me. Definitely don't mark your sorc, a waste of a roll and now also a waste of a primaris.

Whatever discipline you chose, remember to take a Spell Familiar. Do it. The re-roll to failed psychic tests is invaluable, and the upgrade costs mere 15 pts.

Im not familiar yet with the new spells but..
Throwing a sorcerer in with havocs or obliterators makes a mean shooting squads.
A biomancy termie sorcerer with some mutilators or power fist termies is also something to fear.
Or thirdly they could take a more support roll summoning daemons and giving rerolls to forge fiends and the like. Typed on my phone

Remember that any double is a perils if you aren't a daemon. So any time you care summoning deamons you are basically going to be taking a wound. If you want to do this the best build is a palaquin of nurgle so you can soak up a couple of wounds without really worrying.

One could also take the Prophet of the Voices artefact from the Crimson Slaughter Supplement for a Fearless Daemon Sorcerer. Just add a Spell Familiar and some upgrades to his survivability and you have a very efficient summoner.
Even with ML 3 he could use some Warp Charge batteries, though.

Down side to prophet of the voices is that you can only hang out with possessed which are pretty expensive even if cs buffed them a little.

Yeah, I'm aware of that. You could always take Terminator Armour for a 2+/5++, or even the Daemonheart for a 2+/IWND and just try to keep him some place safe.

Since the perils on all doubles for a non Daemon summoner got mentioned I've been toying with the idea of a DP instead. Have him swooping round summoning to his hearts content. Make him Nurgle and jink him so he has his 2+ save - and the BBoS so the snapfire from jink doesn't effect him. What do you guys reckon to that idea?

CSM DP has to be aligned to a Chaos God (like all Daemons), but in this case it has to take at least one power from the respective discipline. But you still can do with 2 Malefic powers, swap one for the primaris and keep the second one if ML 3.
I'm afraid that the Jink-induced Snap Fire actually prevents said DP from firing the BBoS. You can't snap-fire templates and blasts. IMHO, when you take a CSM DP for summoning, give him armour, wings, ML 3, Spell Familiar and nothing else.

Ah gutted - hadn't realised templates couldn't be snap fired.
Black Mace then!?

Keep him cheap, ML 2 so he can swap for malefic primaris, brand because its dirt cheap (compared to the cost of the full prince) and if you are swooping your opponent has to actually shoot you in order to make you jink so if he doesn't shoot you then you can burn stuff and if he does he is likely wasting firepower. You can even look at the shots that are coming your way and if they aren't AP2 you can decided its more worthwhile to tank it on your 3+ and burn some folks.
The mace is terrible because you have to land, sit about for a turn and then charge (and be overwatched) before you get to attack (can no longer land and charge the same turn).
TLDR:
The brand forces your opponent to shoot at the prince and waste firepower doing so simply to force you to jink each turn.

Am I the only one that runs his Sorcerers shooty? Keep them in a rhino with a squad of thousand sons, 2 psykers firing off firestorms and doombolts out the hatch. Pink horrors in the back pumping out warp charges, marines in the front pulping enemies.
Granted it gets bogged down against a lot of armor but for hordes they clean up pretty well.

Sweet thanks for the advice!
As a Daemon of Nurgle he would auto learn the Nurgle Primaris power - does that automatically use up on of his MLs ? As in he would only get 1 other spell?

Sort of, The chaos prince has to take a nurgle power and he gets the primaris for free (chaos psychic focus) then he gets 1 more power which you take as daemonology and swap for primaris (unless you get the one that summons juggernauts).
He is a scalpel, he is very resilient and can summon daemonettes to grab tactical objectives anywhere on the board. The other daemonology powers are great and its a shame he o ly gets one but it is better to have 1 reliable power (reroll) imo than 2 powers and not enough warp charges to get them all off. And the primaris is the best power in the discipline.
