I have a question.
Are these hurricanes/storms/whatever named alphabetically or just randomly? and who gets to name them?

Alphabetically, varying male, female, male, female, etc

I beleive that if a hurricane does enough damage, its name is retired.

So no more Hurricane Katrinas, and no more Hurricane Sandys

Meh, a Cat.1 storm hitting an area that's prone to hurricanes should be able to shrug it off with little problem. The only thing that might be actually worrisome is if the surge hits at high tide, thereby effectively amplifying its damage potential.

You really need at least a Cat.3 to show real "oh bleep!" levels of concern.

The surfers will likely have a ball enjoying this one!

Stay safe everyone. We had tornado warning a few nights ago, the alert came on when I was driving home from work. Just managed to get all the critters in the basement before the sirens started. Tornado touched down about an hour east of us

Get batteries or kerosene for your lamps, and some food you don't have to cook. Fill up your bathtub for water. Stay away from your beaches and you should be ok.

If I ever did that, I fear the older cat would try and drown the younger one, only for her plan to backfire and end up in the tub herself... (not that Stitch would care much, since she routinely tries to jump into the shower)

Anyways, hope you guys out in Halifax weather the storm A-Okay! I kinda wish I was out there to enjoy the show, but sadly I'm in the western GTA and we don't get hurricanes very often.

Hurricane Arthur is currently ravaging the coast of North Carolina. The Category 2 storm is packing winds over 100 mph as it makes its way north. Astronauts aboard the International Space Station snapped this stunning pic of the hurricane yesterday while flying over the Bahamas.

Here's what the storm looked like on July 2nd:

This next image was acquired on July 3rd by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectoradiometer (MODIS) on NASA's Terra satellite. The hurricane measures some 115 miles (185 km) across.

Arthur is projected to graze or strike the Outer Banks of North Carolina as it moves north. The National Hurricane Center has issued a hurricane watch or tropical storm warning for much of coastal North Carolina and a tropical storm watch for part of South Carolina.

I live in CT and we got torrential downpours. Huh. Didnt realize it was a hurricane. I painted. The damn storm power-surged my Xbox though and caused a RRoD. Damn thing. I turned it off and back on, it was all good.

I found out my power was out 3 hours ago when I had to refill generator lol
