Terminator with Assault Cannon

Hello everybody. I recently purchased a land raider crusader, but I have absolutely no idea how to use a landraider, because so far the only space marine vehicle I have used is a dreadnought.
So I was just wondering for any general advice for using land raiders. thanks in advance guys,
T.S.L

I always use mine as a big metal box that safely gets my assault units in the opponent's face while shooting around to reduce their troops.
Multi-Melta is almost a must on that thing, it destroys vehicles that want to intercept my face-smashing party.

Magnetise it.

Both the Crusader and Redeemer (which I assume you have, unless you got it second-hand) are meant for transporting. Drive them at the enemy, spew flames or bolts, and deposit a squad of something nasty right in the face of the enemy. The 12-model capacity of the Redeemer means you can have five Assault Terminators joined by an IC in Terminator Armour. Don't forget the potency of the twin-linked assault cannon. Always remember to make full use of Power of the Machine Spirit.

Also, use Extra Armour - the Land Raider is a very expensive transport, and Extra Armour is a relatively small price to pay to ensure that your expensive transport doesn't spend turns doing nothing at all. Add a multi-melta for flavour, as its always good to have more melta shots on the table, especially mobile ones.

EDIT: Also, make sure it keeps doing something. Even after its crew have disembarked, it should immediately be moving on to another task - hunting down vehicles with its multi-melta and assault cannon, or destroying infantry with flamestorm or hurricane. Only if the Land Raider finds a role in every turn will it make back its points in usefulness. This is the main reason why Chaos Land Raiders are so disappointing - we only have access to the Phobos-pattern (it's not called Godhammer, damn it!), and TL-lascannons just aren't enough.

Step 1: Fill box full of pain
Step 2: Drive box towards foe
Step 3: Profit!

Unlike the Phobos LR, which is very confused to it’s job (or multi-role TAC if we are being polite), the LRC/R is a dedicated battlefield taxi. Its got one job: deliver an expensive, hard hitting, CC unit right into the enemy. The shooty bits are gravy on top. If you wanted a MBT, you’d have taken the one with the Godhammers. You got the AV 14 assault ramp. Obviously you are going to pepper away at things as you charge, and once your payload is delivered, you can truly bring on the dakka. But shooting things is firmly in the secondary objective camp.

Agree with everything said above. The crusader/redeemer are stacked with close range dakka power, to support their advance and the nasty stuff inside once it gets out and ruins Christmas.

I like the crusader a bit more, as it is next to impossible to get both flamestorm cannons on a unit(unless your up against a giant blob of orks or something). Agree to ALWAYS take the multi melta; you are a very durable dakka platform with POTMS. You can dakka troops and split the melta shot away, or use the melta/assault cannon on a tank, throwing out some bolter love into a softer target.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

As a Chaos player and lover of Land Raiders, I am incredibly jealous of all these options. For the same price as your multi-melta, we can take a combi-melta. Yay.

Take it as an inquisition crusader and give it psybolts. For 5 points you upgrade the strength of 6-12 bolter shots and 4 assault cannon shots. 4 tl st7 rending shots is silly good!

Or 2 independent characters not in terminator armour, people always seem to fall into the trap of not wanting to mix armour types

A 2+ save is just a 2+ LOS roll away...

I was pointing out that the strange number (12, not 10 or 15) is most likely meant for this situation, though. It's also an annoyance for my Chaos Terminators. Can't Look Out Sir in a challenge, which I have to do, because Chaos.

I use them to transport hamminators around and provide mobile cover for weaker units. If youre lucky you can disembark the termies, kill a unit, and get back I and druve away next turn to bring the pain again. Lovely.

Anything that will give the LRC a ++ or cover is huge. Also, HP restoring units run well with them. Removing AV 14 HPs comes at a premium in terms of fire power, and any multiplicative effect you can throw on top of that really makes a huge difference. You will often reach a point where the opponent simply tries to ignore/avoid it as he doesn't have a realistic chance to take it down until you drive up into melta range (by then the cargo should be unloaded and doing what it does to face).

Silly and useless comment.

AV14 is the truth in 7th edition.

I'm not sure about the Banner affecting close proximity units, but i know the powerfield generator does not. it only gives the invul save to the vehicle its embarked on.

Based on an FAQ that is no longer valid since 7th dropped, at least it's not part of the new Black Library FAQs. It may have been an oversight...or maybe they figured they'd un-nerf something for an army that could use a bump...
