Hi guys, just wondering if anyone has any advice for using gw washes but without leaving a shiny effect when dry?

Are you shaking the pots thoroughly? Are you laying down really thick coats of paint? Is the underlying paint too shiny?

GW washes are typically matte, that is, they dry without a shine. The only time I've gotten a shine out of them is when I've laid them on way too thick and the deep puddles end up shiny and also when bubbles come in, the paint dries in an awkward membrane that is shiny.

Otherwise my GW washes have always gone on matte.

I had a shiny layer after using glazes but it was evened out after the spray varnish (purity seal). Perhaps a semi-matte varnish can help?

It is typically a symptom of under shaken or over applied washes, at least with the Citadel stuff, but it isn't a big deal, because a coat of varnish of any sort cures it.

Shake the wash really strongly, maybe stir it a bit, then mix in some matt varnish if the wash is still glossy. If that still doesn't work it's a bad batch and should be replaced by customer services.

Try it without having mixed the wash with water. I have a feeling that it will remove the shine.
