This was a small bit on CNN that caught my eye. The thing that interested me was how she said lighter skin tones were considered more beautiful in different countries.

Lighter skin tones, i.e. redheads, are considered more attractive in western countries because of the stark contrast between skin and hair and the, partially resulting, standing out of the crowd.

That and also their hair is fairly uncommon, there are tons and tons of blondes and burnettes, but only handfuls of redheads.

It's quite weird, but someone in my genetics class said that redheads will go extinict because its a very rare gene, unless the gene in order to survive mutatates. And hopefully we get to see purple eyes.

But yes it is interesting what people find attractive or beautiful.

I don't care much for skin colour, hair colour, eye colour, hair texture, etc I like girls with an hour glass figure don't mind if they're a little thick or thin (just don't like the extremes of the spectrum) my ideal face is full lips, big eyes, small nose I make exceptions of course.

Simply someone that you find physically attractive. A common feature in each culture or group seems to be a feature or features that enable such individuals to stand out from others.

Usually people are attracted to something new and exotic. Either it be the eyes, the hair, or the individual's customs or the way the think or do things. There are lots of things to find attractive.

For me the hair and the way they think is attractive. But that is just what my mind wants, the lust in me wants an athletic girl.

But thats just how I work. Having two conflicting ideas in one place.

I think the most interesting fact I heard about attractiveness is that men are more attracted to women who have the same hair colour as them. I do not know if this still works if the womans' hair is dyed. If it doesn't there's a lot of blond hair dye being sold on false pretences.

Redheads are approximately 5% of the western european population and I think that rarity accounts for a lot of their mystique.

Personally ,hair wise I like black hair and red hair, attractiveness is a strange thing.

I got it bad for Indian and Pakistani girls. And I'm a white guy, if that actually matters to anyone. Girls of those nationalities make me swoon.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

This is where it deviates a little for me. As my wife and I communicated by IM what attracted us to each other at first was personality. It wasn't until there was that baseline attraction that we exchanged pics, or talked on cam

I am an absolute sucker for read heads though

Ive seen genetics studies showing that they will thin out because of the recessiveness of their genes. So in a moving gene pool they'd eventually fade into rescessiveness and only occasionally surface in the case of double recessive.

So while they won't die out they'd become much less common.

I think it has something to do with most classical poetry being written about relatively wealthy women who stayed indoors and never developed a tan. So everything is all pale beauty this and fair maiden that.

Think of all the women in Shakespeare, pretty sure they were all pale beauty's. Hell even in the Iliad when Achilles comes across (Briseis I think) bathing it specifically mentions how she has "breasts of new fallen snow."

I like a girl with a heartbeat .... other than that .... I really am not overly concerned. Physical beauty is usually over rated because most times the women are a pain in the ass.

Now, we like big books. (And we cannot lie. You other readers can’t deny, a book flops open with an itty-bitty font, and a map that’s in your face, you get—sorry! Sorry!)

Yes, everyone has their own individual taste for the "perfect" woman, but, by and large different societies have "collective" ideas of what a "beautiful person" looks like.

The people you see in movies and television don't define what actually is beautiful, of course, but they are a decent representation of what is considered apex beauty by society as a consensus.

I never really went in for the idea of being attracted to a whole race of people, or finding a single race, on the whole, more attractive than other people.

Then I saw the taino people, and realized my error.

Personally, redheads (real or fake) gets extra points, and I'm attracted to thinner women with no real attraction to heavier women.

With men, redheads will most likely lose points and I am, once more, attracted more to thinner males.

Pale skin is equally attractive on both genders, but generally speaking just having skin will be enough.

Nearly everything else is either down to the individual, or differs to much from person to person to be a definite points of attractiveness - for example high cheek-bones on one woman might not suit another, or the jawline of one man may look ridiculous on another.

What really makes the attraction, however, is whether or not they make the cut as a person I'd like to be with. There's nothing about someone's physical looks could make me overlook their flaws as a person. At the end of the day an arsehole is an arsehole, no matter how much they might try and hide it.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

No (youravatar.jpg). To begin with, there has not been a single study that actually proved a lower amount or even an extinction of redheads. Secondly, yes, it's recessive, but it is a rather common gene. I, for example have dark main hair but my beard would be red if I would let it grow. My wife has blond hair and...our daughter got red hair

For them to die out, there would be the need of a selection against it - and that is neither happening, nor is it likely to happen anytime soon.
