So gentlemen I have a question for you, I played some Infinity back before Campaign: Paradiso came out, mostly trial/tutorial games trying to get friends into it. (Unfortunatly with no such luck)
I've currently got a small squad of PanO and a slightly larger squad of Haqqislam Qapu Khalqi Sectorial which I usually proxy as normal Haqqislam.
Anyway I found a FLGS recently that regulars Infinity and met some very cool people who talked me back into playing.

-Are there any MAJOR changes that have been made since Human Sphere?
-Is Campaign: Paradiso imparitive as a book for getting back into the game, or should I just focus on re-learning the base game?
-Are there decent quick start rules other than Corvus Belli's that kinda mush the base game with the expansion rules?
-And what's this I hear about 3rd edition?

The biggest difference is the introduction of the Tohaa, a new race. They're alien, but also fighting the Combined Army. They have some unique rules, mostly symbiont armour, and can form 3-man link teams despite not being a sectorial army. The Paradiso book introduced them, along with a narrative campaign set on the planet of the same name (with special upgradeable characters) and a few other things. So the book isn't mandatory, unless you want the campaign. The rules are still free online, army builders are still around with the new profiles.
As far as I'm aware, Beasts of War has some quick start rules available, but that's it. And 3rd edition is coming later in the year, complete with new quick start rules and a 2-player starter set called Operation: Icestorm. Giraldez apparently let slip that it will be available at Gencon, but deleted it.

- There have been no changes so MAJOR that they have to be announced in uppercase, but there have been a few differences over the last few years.

Firstly, as Dheneb says, the Tohaa were introduced. Race with lots of biotech, like symbiont armour which has its own wounds (so models as a whole often have two or three wounds, and their TAG potentially has four. The downside is that successful fire damage takes them straight to dead), and a societal obsession with numerology. They can form as many three-man links as they like.

After that, there's been a few changes to the ITS format. It's more structured now, with official scenarios - many of these are based around "specialists" (depending on scenario, Doctors, Paramedics, Engineers, Forward Observers, Hackers and Chain of Command) interacting with objectives, rather than just about doing as much damage as possible.

- Paradiso is not essential. The core rules and profiles are all online. However, the campaign rules, including upgradeable spec-ops and commander skills, and scenarios are in the book only.

- No. All of the quick start rules deliberately leave out the expansion stuff in the interests of simplicity.

- Due to be released later this year (exact date yet undetermined), with a starter set (Operation:Icestorm - it seems to be that it'll be the forthcoming replacement PanO and Nomad Starters with some exclusive models thrown in) preceding it with a GenCon release. From what's already been heard, it's really quite a major overhaul.

What have you heard about Infinity 3.0?

Honestly, only thing I heard was the poor decision not to consolidate the rules for things like link teams into the core rulebook.

But it is good to hear that more stuff is changing overall.

There's a thread on the official boards about the rumoured changes; to be honest when they first appeared I thought people were making things up.

Yes, well, that's because all of us who were at the Summer Challenge had agreed we'd post the news from the seminar in a misleading (but technically correct) manner.

It was supposed to be a bit of a reminder to people that any news could sound bad given that we don't have the context of the complete picture. (Not completely effective though, as some people are still over-reacting to news based on assumptions about what will/won't change).
