So I was wondering if there is any way you can get your Leman Russ tanks to score in the AM codex. I remember that there was a FW army list that I believed made them scoring but I can no longer find it. If you could please help me find out how to do this, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

You mean OS leman ruses? I think Armoured Battle Group is the only source.
Perhaps GK grand strategy.

The FW armored battlegroup list has LRBTs (all variants) as troops, which means as long as you take them in a battle-forged army they will get the "objective secured" rule like any other unit of troops.

Good to know. Now to proxy it, I was thinking of using a 1/56 scale Panzer III J. Would that size be about right or shoul I look at another scale?

IIRC, aren't the warhammer vehicles about 1/72? That'd mean 1/56 would come in rather large.

Portugal Jones wrote:IIRC, aren't the warhammer vehicles about 1/72? That'd mean 1/56 would come in rather large.
No, 1/72 is waaay off. 40k operates in a bizarre scale where the infantry are around 1/56 and the tanks are closer to 1/35, although a lot taller and less long. The proportions of the guns are always way off in 40k.
To my knowledge, a 1/35 Panzer is around Land Raider size, a 1/48 one is too small, so 1/56 will be a little short (height-wise), probably a little longer, but should be Ok if you're not going to tournaments.

The intent was for me to be able to run these at some tournaments too if I choose to take my AM instead of Tau. In that case, what should I be looking at for scale? It sounds like the 1/56 or 1/48 would do well then? Just would like it if I could get a clear specific to what the scale would be for proxying 40k Chimeras, Leman Russes, and Tauroxes. Thanks for the help. Here is what I was thinking for them:
Chimera: Panzer II Flamm "Flamingo" 28mm 1/56 Scale
Leman Russ Exterminator (Plasma would be added as a bit for the main gun): Crusader Mk 1& 2 - 28mm 1/56 Scale
Taurox: SdKfz. 222 - 28mm 1/56 Scale
The Taurox and Chimera can be found here: http://www.blitzkriegminiatures.com/html%20pages/1-56%20scale%20tanks/German%20tanks%20final%2056.html twards the bottom of the page;.
And the Leman Russ here: http://www.blitzkriegminiatures.com/html%20pages/1-56%20scale%20tanks/British%20tanks%20final%2056.html at the top.
Thanks for all the help!

The easiest way to figure all these scale issues out is to do some calculations. A quick google search will tell you the actual dimensions of a panzer III. Then divide them by 56 and give or take a few mm, you'll have the size of the model. Panzer III: 5.41m long, 2.95m wide, 2.44 m high. At 1/56, that's just shy of 10 cm long. Or 4 inches long. Quite small for a leman russ. Like really, really small. While 1/35 is really big, I think you'll find it works well for earlier WW2 tanks used with 40k stuff. The hatches look closer to the right size and the models are big enough to fit in with 40k's weird scale mismatch when it comes to their vehicles. Academy makes cheap plastic kits that I can get for $30 after shipping. They tend to not be the highest end kit, but they build fast and look right.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

Obviously, but the point is to get OS. Lets say you are playing the scouring. If you have 5 OS Leman Russes, that will be a pain to knock off AV 14 or 13 vehicles to access the objective uncontested.

Not what your OP said but ok. Not sure if they can get OS. LRs as troops seems silly.

It's probably best to just read 'makes scoring' as 'makes objective secured' in this edition.
edit: I mean as written by players, not as written in the army books.

Everything is scoring, with just a couple of exceptions. The Steel Host formation says absolutely nothing about the Russes being objective secured tho, so they're not.

EVERYTHING SCORES, just about.
Objective Secured is "super scoring", i.e. you score even if another unit without OS is also scoring it.

OK, EVERYONE FRICKING KNOWS EVERYTHING SCORE IN 7th!! You dont have to post just repeating it. I'm sorry for not being more clear, the goal is to have OS Leman Russes. Is that only available through the FW army?

I think you'd still be a little on the short side, the 'Chimera' looks awesome but weighs in at around 3.5 inches, where a real Chimera is closer to 5. Similarly, it's about 2/3 of the height by the look of it. It could work with some conversion, but not really stock. Consider 1/48, maybe, or even smaller tanks in 1/35. There's a thread in News and Rumours about Historical Kits for 40k that has some suggestions, so all I can really do is point you in that direction.
