Subject: Eldar AIRFORCE 1850pts competitive?

Hi Everyone!
I am trying to make a Serpentless eldar list which can still be competitive and utilizes the amazing crimson hunter models.
Autarch - Jetbike 85pts
Farseer - Jetbike + SS 120pts
3x Guardian Jetbikes 51pts
3x Guardian Jetbikes 51pts
3x Guardian Jetbikes 51pts
3x Guardian Jetbikes 51pts
3x Guardian Jetbikes 51pts
Crimson Hunter - Bright Lances & Pulse Laser 160pts
Crimson Hunter - Bright Lances & Pulse Laser 160pts
Crimson Hunter - Bright Lances & Pulse Laser 160pts
3x Hornets with Dual Pulse Laser 240pts
Wraithknight 240pts
Lynx - Sonic Lance & Scatter Laser 430pts
The Autarch is in the list only to help ensure the crimson hunters appear when needed, but I am not sure if they is worth wasting 85points on. The entire army is armed with antitank weapons which I hope to be able to ruthlessly use to pop vehicles and MCs instantly (24x Str-8 AP-2 shots & 2x Str-10 AP-2 shots). My early goal will be to try and keep the lynx alive until the backup arrives from the air. The lynx uses the appocolypse flamer template with a 3+ re roll to wound no armour save or cover save allowed and is my main source of anti troop. The jetbikes are in the list because I need something fast to take objectives but small enough to be able to hide.
I feel as though I have spent too many points on fancy units and not enough on core units but please let me know your thoughts.
I have a ton of models so am open to all suggestions.
Thanks,

This is a very outside the box type of army. I've never seen anything quite like this. I was not aware the Lynx got a reroll to wound, which is pretty significant.
The only thing I could possibly advise was to utilize this army as an Iyanden army only so you could make the Wraithknight your Warlord.
If you try the army out, let us know. I'd be very interested with how this plays.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby. |

The scatter laser makes all other weapons on the unit twin linked. A twin linked template re rolls to wound, so that is how it works (please correct me if I am wrong).
Making the wraithknight my warlord would be helpful to give it a chance at a nice buff.
Unfotunately I am using a double force organization chart right now so am kinda forced to have 2 HQs and 4 troops. I am not sure if I am better off making 3 seperate units of hornets or keeping them together. As a unit of 3, it is very easy to give them re rolls to hit which is devastating with 12 shots, however this can easily be overkill on most targets which makes it redundant.
Has anyone had experience with running such a low model count list. I am worried my presence in the first or second turn may be useless and anything on the board will get focused. Would starting all units in reserve be a smart idea?
Thanks,

Definitely a different list and it could very well work , you absolutely need the ataurch because your game really rides on getting the hunters in ASAP

Why not drop the Hornets for a 4th Hunter and make them all BS 5 ? Would terrify most opponents of the turn 2 Alpha. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and if you are going to run that many, maybe mix in some starcannons? This could help you diverse your Alpha so you know you can hit a variety of prime targets.

Starting up to half your units in reserves would be a bad idea depending on the mission, in malestorm you just need to take and hold objectives asap though in most dawn of war its late game objective scoring. Do according.
As for the SL making the whole weapon TL it is iffy at best.
The laser lock rule says fire the SL at a target first, then if at least 1 shot hits any other weapons "re roll to hits" not twin linked. Twin linked basically does re rolls to hit for non template weapons but since it just says re rolls to hit this can mean it has no effect on template weapons which auto hit.
I would recommend asking your local store/GW guru first.

If thats all you do, I suggest playing a different game. to the op: Its an odd list, and might work great, might not.. test it out against some tough lists and see. It has potential, thats for sure. I admit I dont know much about the lynx or the hornets, i tend to stick to my codex. My alternative to those units would likely be warp spiders and fire prisms.

SL does give twin linked in the codex fwiw, "if it hits treat all weapons which have not hit yet as twin linked for the rest of the turn"
Looks good, only issue is with all of the anti armor you really lack anti infantry, as a lot of the game is based on objectives although your units can get to them quickly(jetbikes) they aren't going to be removing any models that are there, or holding them should someone else show up and want to take them from you. I know the lynx can flame a unit a turn, but it has to be near the objective and theres more than 1 objective...I would consider dropping one of the crimson hunters and taking swooping hawks or vypers in the place.

Because you cant.
I have been debating on whether or not my 2 lynxs would be better or worse with the sonic lance (scatters also of course). I still think the pulse laser out does the sonic lance, but in this list where horde control is a problem, sonic lance is probably the way to go.
I would in fact drop the Hornets (You have enough anti tank in the crimson hunters, and wraithknight(s)), and then get another wraith knight.

Some interesting ideas so far.
@ ShadarLogoth
I simply don't own 4 crimson hunters and the only additional flyer I could take would be a phoenix bomber. The reason I don't have them currently upgrade as exarchs is because I am afraid I have too many points tied up off the table.
@ chadbrochill17
I usually stick with codex units too, but the last time I used the hornets I couldn't believe how useful they were at anti tank/heavy troops/MC/flyer, and yet opponents tend not to focus them since they can hang back while other units distract upfront. I do have 24 warp spiders which would fit so nicely into the theme of the army, and be fast mid strength firepower. Technically the lynx can turn into a flyer if it wants to a miss a round of shooting to reposition.
@ blaktoof
You bring up the biggest flaw with the army which is anti horde. Surprisingly the hornets when guided are great unit exterminators, but without weight of fire in other aspects of the army it will be tough to clear out units which are spread thin. I have not used my lynx yet, so am not sure exactly what kinda of devastation I will be able to cause with that template or how easy it will be to keep alive. I am going to have to test it out before I cut a crimson hunter, as the triple hunter is the main goal to include in this list.
@ninjafiredragon
Both gun options are great now. If you want to shoot from the back field the pulsar is a solid choice, otherwise I think the sonic lance twin linked is one of the scariest weapons around. I believe it will roll 4d6 (discard the lowest due to primary weapon) against vehicles with a re roll due to twinlinked. So you can cover a unit and clip a vehicle to potentially threaten lots of targets. This is all in theory, I will report on how it performs. You are probably right about the fact that 2 wraithknights would be better since they could help control the ground without fear of popping like the lightly armoured vehicles.

hate? well that escalated quickly.
he was simply trying to make the OP aware of possible rulings on the laser lock special rule. if you can't handle different interpretations of badly written (or well written rules, maybe they want it to do exactly what it says, re roll to hit) then you absolutely need to find a different game to play. don't worry we don't hate you.
op, love the list, very different, very cool, and i bet very good.

Fair enough. I love that Exarch upgrade on them though. I feel like I have so much invested in them already, I really, really want them to do their job when they come on.

You can only take ONE Crimson Exarch per detachment.
The list is hardcore. It will struggle against strong alpha strike armies, but if you survive T1 mostly unscathed, you will rule the game.

i have a friend that's getting into eldar/dark eldar.
i think something along these lines would be a really good army, how would you build this with dark eldar allies, and no fw he doesn't want to buy any.
