So I have picked up my boys in blue again and I am preparing for multiple games against Tau. Since Ultramarines lack their own MC, I was thinking about using the ally option and add an Imperial Knight. S8nce most folks tend to fear big models, my thought is that it will attract attention and allow the rest of the list to hit the priority units with minimal return fire. Has anyone done this and could share how it worked out?

Thanks all!

I am planning on using one. I imagine they'd mesh well with Space Marines; they provide a good amount of anti-infantry with their battlecannon, can destroy a horde in short order, and their SD weapons make Tanks their bitches.

Unless you take the Melta one, and then I am confused. Why would you give up the 2 shot battlecannon? (unless you face a boatload of TEQ, I suppose...)

Battle cannons can't one-shot things anymore. And the Melta cannon meshes well with the anti-tank capabilities of a Knight.

Both have their places.

They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear.

A STR D Close Combat Weapon will make short work of a tank as well. As well, it's not very difficult to get Melta up close as a space marine army, so our desire for a gigantic Melta cannon isn't as great as other armies might have.

While a Battlecannon can't one shot a tank anymore, you can still use it to obliterate MEQ. Especially since a Knight is high enough to look over most Aegis lines.

Isn't a 2-5 D3 hullpoints + a pen? And you get to swing 4 times on the charge?

That's enough to deal with pretty much any tank. And then D3 Stomps on a non-superheavy on top of that.

My concern is with Riptides. I would imagine a knight can take 1-2 down before it goes down.

There's actually not much a Riptide can do to a Knight.

My brother found out riptides are no match for knights

My thought is the battle cannon (apologize if the name is wrong) and the Str D melee weapon would be a viable loadout with Ultramarines. Cannon for ranged attacks while it marches up to smack things in the face.

I run an IK with my ultramarines I find it's extremely useful that said my last lsit lacked much in tjhe way of other high threat armor, I'd reccomend running a land raider or something with it it soak up some attention

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two
