Weeeelllll... Hi all! Earlier today I had nothing really to do after doing some cultists so I thought I could do a serious (ish) list for my new csm army (that I've not started yet...). This is why the warp my mind has spawned into existence. Feesback very much appreciated, Ryu.

Chaos lord
MoK, power weapon, Sigil of corruption, terminator armour
155pts

Chaos Space Marines(10)
+5 CSM's, Melta bombs, X2 Meltaguns
165pts

Chaos Space Marines(10)
+5 CSM's, Melta bombs, X2 Meltaguns
165pts

Khorne Beserkers (7, lord goes with)
+2 KB's, X7 Chain-axes, Melta bomb
169pts

Rhino
35pts

Heldrake
Baleflamer
170pts

Obliterators
+1 oblit
140

999pts total

The list is meant to be a all round list, getting up close and personal (with Beserkers), mid range (with CSM's) and far away (with oblits).

Is the Rhino for your Berzerkers or one of your CSM squads? Models in Terminator armour cannot embark onto Rhinos. Also, if you give your Chaos Lord Terminator Armour, it comes with a Power weapon already (and a 5++) which makes your upgrades a bit too costly. I would recommend either using the Crimson Slaughter supplement and giving your Chaos Lord Daemonheart (2++ and IWND); dropping the Terminator Armour for either a Chaos bike or Juggernaut while dropping the Obliterators for a unit of Chaos Spawn or Bikes; keeping the Terminator Armour and Deep Striking it with your Obliterators...; or taking Kharn. You have a more options than those, but just to give you a few ideas...

Your CSMs aren't necessarily mid-range with Meltaguns. If you're planning to advance them, I would give them Rhinos and/or give them Plasma guns to hold midfield objectives.

Some great advice.

Also consider daemon allies.

Also If you plan on getting serious you need to put all your berzerkers either in rhinos with invis/shrouding or in land raiders.

1. Ditch the terminator armor on the lord. It prevents you from ever preforming a sweeping advance and given how common ap2 weapons are, it doesn't give that much more protection.

2. Get some transports. You have 1 rhino for 3 units of infantry which need to be within 12 inches to be a threat. One rhino is easy pickings, 3 means that your enemy cant stop your advance because there are too many targets. You may even consider getting a land raider. It would provide some heavy fire support and give you an assault vehicle.

3. What are you doing for anti-air?

4. How well can this list hold objectives. It looks good for assault, but can it really lacks the long range firepower that helps hold objectives.

The other 2 posters have good ideas as well.

You've got a good start, just keep in mind that this list needs to cross the table to be effective If you aren't making your enemies duck, you'll be cu to pieces before you make it over there.

Thanks everyone! Well, time to answer all your questions! My lord is a popular topic, so I'll start with him. So... I haven't got the Crimson Slaughter supplement so I have no clue on the points cost, point changes that may happen or any new items and weapons, but I have made a (not neccaserily better) compromise:

Chaos lord
MoK, Sigil of corruption, Melta bombs
105pts

I hope this is a Better lord and I will be using the extra points later in this post.
Next up, the subject of Rhino's. Yes, the rhino in the list presently goes with Beserkers, and after freeing up 46pts with my lord, I can get another rhino for CSM's.
Now a quick question about Beserkers: Are chain axes worth the three points just to give them an ap3 weapon?
Daemon time! I haven't got the daemon codex soo... How would I have daemon allies without the codex?
Finally, chaos space marines, Give one unit plasma guns, not melta guns. Done with a point to spare.

If you have any feed back, feel free to tell me, advice is always welcome!

With Crimson Slaughter, all your units gain the Fear special rule and there are some changes that don't necessarily affect your current list (i.e. Possessed as Troop choices with a new table to roll on and an upgrade to a single Chosen unit for Preferred Enemy. If you're not keen on picking up more Codices at the moment (Chaos Daemons, etc) then I would hold off... a new supplement or formation could always be around the corner for release anyways...

I wouldn't drop your Chaos Lord to only wielding Melta bombs. He's cheap(er), but also vulnerable without being a threat and will easily concede a Slay the Warlord VP. Consider giving him the Burning Brand of Skalathrax or a melee weapon.

Unfortunately, chainaxes are AP4 and are usually not worth the cost and will be dependent on what your meta is (i.e. do you play against a lot of lighter-armoured armies such as IG, Tau, Eldar, Tyranids?) and if your unit would be able to successfully get into combat with those units (usually shooty) after facing an inevitable Overwatch.

Do you play against a lot of loyalist SM to take VotLW?

I play against Tau, ig, Grey knights (so might be a good idea to get a sorcerer), loyalist sm's And Eldar, so chain axes yay or naw? Also, I haven't got any supplements for any codices yet, do the the effects of a supplement stack?
Ooh, also, for the hell drake, should I give it the hades Autocannon or flamer?

Hi again yall! Updated my list to fit in all these changes, as well as a few ones such as completley (nearly) revamping my lord. Well, down to business!

Chaos Lord
MoK, power fist, lightning claws, Sigil of corruption
140pts

Chaos space marines
+5 CSM's, X2 Flamers, Melta bombs
155pts

Rhino
35pts

Chaos space marines
+5 CSM's, X2 Plasma Guns, Melta bombs
175pts

Khorne Beserkers (lord goes with)
+2 Beserkers, Melta Bombs
148pts

Rhino
35pts

Helldrake
(Magnetised weapon)
170pts

Obliterators
+1 oblit
140

998pts total

So, hopefully this should be better than original, keeping all the units I had before. Any more advice on the topic is welcomed still!

It sounds like your meta is pretty diverse. My advice is to play with the chainaxes for several games and see whether or not the unit makes use of them. With chainaxes, ideally you would send them into the squishier targets, rather than MEQ units. One thing to consider is giving your CSM squads the Rhinos to give them needed mobility to hunt their respective targets, and they can be used to shield your Berzerkers on foot to provide cover if carefully positioned.

For the Heldrake, use the Baleflamer.

For the Obliterators, make them separate units so they have more survivability. If you have the extra points, take MoN.

Weellll... One I have two rhinos in the army (one for Beserkers, one for one unit of CSM's), but could give one rhino to the other csm unit and not give the Beserkers one, but that'd leave them a bit vulnerable in my opinion... The Helldrake has same points value whatever you give it (thus magnitisation), and I'm getting two boxes of Beserkers (so three units of 8) so I'll give each squad differant things and I can mix 'n' match dependant on what I am facing. Ermm... 998 points out of 1000 so no points left over for anything (i think), so no MoN, and seperate units of oblits still come to 70 points each (140 for both which is the present total of points on oblits)... I think I've covered everything here... By the way, should I cut down on bracets per post?

he's saying split the oblits so they can fire at two different targets or both fire at one (shoot transports with ones lascannom, then plasma the occupants, oh yeah!!) it also doesn't let your opponent have his cake and eat it too when he shoots at them, he can only kill one with one units shooting not both. aaaand when they're in groups, and one does, the rest have the chance to run away, if split up when he kills one, there's nothing left to run...

also on the Helldrake, just use the baleflamer, the autocannon isn't even close to it in power.

Ohhhhh... Thanks dude (s)! Just got my first box of CSM's with two Flamers. And that is a great piece of advice about the obliterators, never thought of that. If only there was a two point way to give them sky fire and interceptor....
