Hey guys, I just wanna know what deathstars are out there for the tau, and if possible could they be detailed. Also, was wondering if there were any effective ally deathstars that could be added? Thanks

Right now the only death star for the tau is the farsight bomb, which consists of farsight, 7 crisis suits, a buffing commander, and maybe drones and shadowsun.

The Farsight Bomb mentioned above is... the bomb, really! You have 7 suits with two weapons and a target lock each, meaning they can shoot at different targets. Farsight is in because he unlocks the 7 bodyguard team, and on top of him you run a commander with all the buffing equipments. Thus you twin-link everything, and also ignores cover! You then add drones as ablative wounds and as another source of firepower (BS5 with your buff commander!). Shadowsun grants stealth and shrouded, which is a welcome boost to survivability (+2 cover save if in cover). She should also preferably be the warlord since you rarely want to deepstrike the bomb - 3d6 assault move is thus better.

The main weakness is close combat, although you will have a buttload of attacks if you charge - don't do it vs combat specialists, however. Farsight is your main asset here, not only due to his CC power but also his initiative - put Vectored Retro Thrusters on your buffmander and you pass the test 5/6 times.

The optimal loadout depends on what other firepower you bring. If you have missile pod broadsides you want to split between Plasma and Fusion, otherwise add in some MPs as well. The bomb is brutal, being able to wipe out several units a turn with its unparalleled shooting. Watch out for ignore cover low AP templates (Hello riptides), however.

Space pope is not killy but he will save your space soul.

Farsight bomb is really the only deathstar we have. I have not seen it run in a while though, and out of knowing 5 other Tau players only one really plays it regularly.

if Space Pope would attach to a unit, even if it was just firewarriors only, he would be more viable and probably used fairly often. Hes just way too easy to kill, considering he has no save and stands on his own.
Yes i know his staff gives a save equal to the AP of the gun. Guess what though its a cover save, which is ignored oh so easily these days.
That being said, Tau really dont have a deathstar unless you wanna count the Farsight Bomb. Then again, tau dont need a deathstar.

Is it really a cover save? IF you pass the test no wound as if a cover save had been passed, but it does say to treat it as a cover save.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
There is the Shadowsun bomb. While note as powerful as the farsight it is a lot cheaper and gives shadowsun 6 + extra wounds.

Shadowsun, her CnC drone, 6 stealthsuits(all with target lock, and 2 FB) for 4 independent FB shots, 4 independent BC shots, 3d6 assault move, auto passed LOS!, re-rolling 1s to hit, stealth, and shroud for 375. EDIT: Almost for got infiltrate, that makes the 4 FB shots really worth it.

it says "as if a cover save as just been passed" which means if you ignore cover, no save can be taken.

It could be RAW argued either way I suspect. I don't run or face Space Pope, was just curious how events rule it.
