I'm a sucker for underused models and the Kommandos/Tankbustas seems like a fun unit I can convert by Boyz into.
But before I do, I need some general strategies/tactics that these units can perform .

With their new update in the Codex, I can see Tank Bustas being an auto-include in many lists, with Kommandos finding their way into more lists as well when joined by Snikrot to force enemies off objectives, or to at least make last ditch attempts to steal one before the game ends.
Tankbustas though will have many of the same needs as regular Boyz. They needed protection, and babysitting. It seems best to run them in a Battlewagon, though expensive, in order to keep them safe, and the Nob with Bosspole to keep them from running. As they are intended, they need tank targets to fire off volleys of rokkits from the back of the Wagon. If no tanks exist, then you can Insta Death Marines and their ilk with rokkit barrages. You could have a Big Mek join them, to give the Wagon or the unit a 5+ invul save as well as attempt to keep the Battlewagon's Hull Points up...but can be a bit pricey as well...

Wouldn't that go against the rule 'you can never re-roll a re-roll'?

Da finkin cap gives the Warlord a secondary Trait but from the Strategic list in the BRB, so there are essentially 3 chances to get it.

Agreed
Also I don't think a BW is really the best option for them. They want to get to vehicles fast and use their melta bombs to splode some land raiders (or other shtuff).
If I used them I would get a minimal 5 man squad and throw them in a trukk, which altogether only costs 105pts, and turbo up to your primary av target asap. Essentially working in the same capacity as haywire wyches do for dark eldar, except for 20 pts cheaper, hurray!

See, I'd planned on putting them behind the choppa boyz, so they could walk around and lob bottle rockets at things while avoiding getting shot whenever possible. Having them run *towards* the bad guy seems ... problematic.

I am actually taking 3 squads of 3 Meganobz with 1 Killsaw and Boss Pole as my Anti-Tank. I find that the Meganobz have more targets that I can go after which fits better for a TAC list. They are also a bit better vs explosions in vehicles. The big winner for the Tankbustas though is they do have a bit of ranged shooting which can kill flyers. The Meganobz fail in this department. How ever I have been keen to get a squad of Trakktor Kannons together to deal with air units. They really do seem like some solid anti-air.
