Running Chaos armies, I notice that I have an awful lot of units that have the fear special rule. What armies will this give me the upper hand against, and how can I use it to its fullest. I think most of the time I forget about the rule entirely. I know I've made IG wet their pants plenty of times, but since I don't have access to anything but my own codices, what other armies will this help me against? Just looking into getting back into the fray.

Fear is terrible. Most armies have LD 10 or are even immune to Fear, making it a joke of a special rule.

Eldar (mostly) aren't fearless, same with Necrons.
That's... about it. Unless they made Orks not fearless.

Yeah. It's just something that comes free with a lot of things I run, though. I know I've missed a few chances to use it, and just wondering where (if anywhere) it actually is useful I haven't seen the new codices aside from what I picked up for my own armies. My only hardbacks are CSM and Daemons Looks like not much changed? Are fire warriors fearless, or is it worth dropping raptor squads near them?

If you get it for free, it's a neat thing to have. My Maynarkh units get it as well. It just isn't anything worth mentioning and you will often forget about it during the game.

That entire forgetting about it thing is why I was asking what to really look out for. Like, if I can scatter orks with it, I need to make a note of it. I usually go to the shop after a few beers, and tend to overlook the little stuff, lol.

... and if Tau are in a position where they are subject to it, they're already humped.

Fear is acctually good againgst a few armies.

Imperial guardsmen that dont have a priest or commisar attatched.

Riptides.

Orks. Even if the mob rule prevents the fear from reducing WS, it will usually cause them to loose an ork or 2 from the test.

Chaos space marines.

Eldar other than seerstar or avatars.

Any of these that get in assault with a fear inducing unit have to pass their check or be utterly useless.

Orks are pretty much the only army that is easily vulnerable to Fear right now.

Necrons are LD10
Marines are immune (atsknf)
Any eldar that will ever even deal with it is fearless or LD10 (either on their own or because of nearby units/ICs)
Nidz and Daemons are immune to it in virtually every situation
Tau are fethed up if theyre ever in the position to take this test anyway.

I was really pissed when i noticed the new Mob Rule excludes Fear from the chart. Im LD7 unless i got a Bigmek or Warboss (LD8 or 9 respectively) so odds are im going to fail that kinda often, and no failsafe for it since its not a morale check.

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

Even ld 10 fails when you make him roll enough leadership tests.

Same can be said for pinning, sure-most often it does nothing. but when it kicks in, it counts.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

most eldar are ld8 and 9 unless they have a farseer attached. Only the avatar, wraithguard and a model with the shard of anaris are immune. Daemons have fear, but are not fearless and have mostly lower ld as well, even our big monsters are only ld 9.

I too ALWAYS forget I even have it, ive never once in 12 years of playing made someone take a fear test.

For me Fear is slightly broken. A Wraithknight and Riptide charge Nurglings, but roll badly on their leadership test and spend the fight sub-phase cuddling in fear while the Nurglings pick their noses.

I wish it was like fantasy where if you cause fear you are immune to it or at least get a reroll

Annihilation is always a victory condition

Orks being the most susceptible to fear is a real big load of *BLEEP* , but that being said if you want an army that fear is good against its them and is a pretty hard counter to the one thing they're good at which is melee. Unless you're facing down the fearless meganob formation from the ork supplement.

Games Workshop: Ruining Chaos Space Marines since 2007

First they raised prices on the Eldar, and I did not speak out because I did not play Eldar.

Then, they raised prices on the Orks, and I did not speak out because I did not play Orks.

Then, they raised prices on the Nids, and I did not speak out because I did not play Nids.

Then, they raised prices on the Marines, and there was nobody to speak out for me.
