I think the Adeptus Mechanicus are really cool, and I was considering starting them as my next army (using the Horus Heresy Extermination book). I think the models from Forge World are awesome, but they're obviously expensive. So this was going to be a 'slow burn' project.

My gaming group is pretty cool, so we can agree to allow/disallow things. And no one really goes out of their way to make broken lists. So they're cool in general with me making a Mechanicus list. I could even start using them in an allied detachment.

That said, *I* wouldn't want to use them if they are OP. I especially wouldn't want to sink a lot of cash into something that I couldn't use.

So, are the 30k lists more powerful, less powerful, or about the same as 40k?

This might have been answered before. If so, my apologies, I searched but couldn't find anything.

They are not OP. They can actually be underpowered at lower points value. You would want to be at least 1500 to stand much of a chance.

Cool. Under-powered is fine. Thanks :-)

While this may be true for the Legion lists, the Taghmata Omnissiah from HH Book III: Extermination actually seems a bit OP to me. Your standard Thallax Cohort is 3 guys for 135 points, but they have an AWESOME stat line and 3 wounds. Not to mention the Lightning Gun- who doesn't want a medium range autocannon shot that has shred and rending on it? I used to think they were kinda meh, until I realized they are jet Pack infantry and Djinn-sight... OMG.

Next up would be the Castellax. 85 points per model, buy you are basically getting a Wraithlord on steroids with a 3+/5+ invulnerable. Give him Enhanced Targeting Array, Darkfire Cannon, and Paragon of Metal and watch your opponent weep.

The tanks are good, and when you start looking at all the support units they get... the list just seems to be one of those elite style armies that if played well will decimate your opponent.

I'd say make the army- the models are fantastic and it's performance on the battlefield will be unlike any other army out there right now.

The Castellax spins out of control quickly if you got more than a few in your list, as that point removes the "hard to control where they go and who they attack" downside because they are freaking everywhere and attack everything.

The Thallax are good, very good, but in the end they are not very different from FE crisis suits.
They won't brake your game, their gun is scary strong but lacks the number of shots to be a major threat (1 shot per model, aprox 45 points per model. that's not alot.), and they absolutely hate krak missiles just as much as battlesuits, as it gets far away and instagibs them.

The rest of the army ranges between decent to strong, with a few duds hidden in the mix, but overall its a powerful army.
Not more powerful than necrons, tau or eldar. but enough to make dark angels sad.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.
