I'll be going and not overly interested in buying the t-shirt so if anything event only is wanted that wont take up too much of my time I'd be happy to pick it up

After realising how much it's likely to cost (£25? £30?) even before shipping I think it's likely way beyond budget. Thanks though!

Well I got my ticket a while ago and am able to fly down from Aberdeen for less than the train!!

For me Games Day has always been about Golden demon and the chance to fondle some FW stuff early.

The days of mass games, shop made fancy terrain trying to out do each other are long gone.

However I am giving the 'Fest' the benefit of the doubt and see what they offer.

I think GW does realise that last years G,Day was very poorly received and they probably don't want their premier event to be seen as a waste of time.

Hopefully it will be a day where you can spend 5 hours and see everything but not double up on things and feel it was worth it all.

A finalist medal or trophy wouldn't go amiss either, but we have to see.

The move to more seminar based approach seems to be a smart one as it works well for the weekender events. I do think that the number of seminars is a bit small at this one, the pods help but I'm worried that the popular ones will have big queues.

Speaking of queues I hope they get the merchandise queue system sorted, I will not buy anything if its a disorganised scrum.

Personally think they need to up their game, nine of this grey curtain and a LCD TV nonsense shown in their own promotional. Proper high quality individualised stations, have assigned ticketing for each seminar so you can see everything and nothing gets too overcrowded and have DVDs if the seminars available to purchase after the fact for the modelling workshops. They are supposed to be the big fish in the industry charging top prices so act like it. Make it a high quality event that rewards people for going and aim to have it so it becomes a prestige desire able event again.

The seminars have some reserved seating that you can get tickets for on the day, although I suspect the queues for that to be painful. The pods do not have any ticketing system I've seen announced.

Having been to Nine Worlds and Uk Games Expo with their pre booking system you would hope Games Workshop could do something similar.

Sounds like a rehash of last years failure. Instead of talking to staff on their respective boths, they will give seminars. Done, same as last year.

Just phoned up Forgeworld to try and add in IA13 to my reservation, however you can't reserve it. They then confirmed that they would be restocking Saturday evening for Sunday morning, so FW at least will have fresh stock for both days.

I'll be trying to pickup IA13 on the Sunday but something tells me it'll be going fast.

Looks like you'll be able to buy tickets at the door on the day:

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Events/Warhammer_Fest_Tickets.html

Not sure there was ever a time you could buy tickets for games day on the day, they used to sell out months ahead.
Properly sad, as games day was the highlight of my year at one point.

Wait, so they actually expect that people will fork out for travel, food, and potentially accommodation expenses and then risk not actually getting in to the event that is supposedly the whole point of the trip(albeit a small risk given that if they've not sold out the tickets in advance they'll likely not sell out on the day either, but still)?

Or maybe if you are local you can just pop in ?
You used to be able to buy tickets on the door when it was held in Derby assembly rooms, I used to pop in all the time.

TBF they could be keeping tickets at the door for any walk ins, as they do get a lot of them but they get turned away.

This is a bit of a new format for them. I was talking to the nicest (and excited) FW staffer ever when I ordered some stuff to pick up on the sunday and they all seem really up for it this year.

We will see....GD entries almost finished.

Most people attending GD/WHF tend to be from elsewhere, in my experience. Also correct me if I'm wrong, but the Derby days was back when the design team sat at a table to meet folk with tinnies/pints smoking like chimneys, no? Times have changed a tad

How many Dakka members are headed to the Ricoh on the 11th?

I went to my first wargaming 'event' this year in the form of Salute and it was an absolute blast!

I'm a big fan of all things Warhammer and The End Times stuff has really piqued my interest again so I'm pretty hyped, said hype is somewhat dampened by the negative coverage the previous Games Days have had over the past few years, though.
I recall the Beasts of War crew getting kicked out for no good reason and accusations that the entire show is just a glorified retail experience, which isn't what I'm after.

It's gonna cost £50 to attend, worth a punt in your opinion? Or save the dosh for a trip to Warhammer World and get to see all of the exhibits instead?

If you're not after a glorified retail experience, and liked Salute, then this likely isn't for you.

There will be some seminars/demos and a lot of GW/exclusive stuff to buy, and the Golden Demon, and that's probably it. It's a new format so we're not entirely sure; it could turn out to be awesome.

How far do you need to travel for it? If you're nearby or in the area anyway and a massive GW fan then it's maybe worth going in for the day, but I wouldn't be travelling across the country or staying overnight for.

I think it's worrying that there are still tickets for sale, Games Day used to sell out well before the event. Also strikes of desperation that they are selling them at the door? Must have a lot left if they can actually advertise that as an option.
It is no surprise though, Warhammer Fest was kept secret for so long, so late into the year that many including myself had given up on there being a Games Day or its equivalent at all. Believe it or not some of us need time to arrange leave from work in order to attend, and having already done that for a presumed September games day earlier in the year, it was was frustrating to say the least that I had to move it. Maybe I was stupid to book time off so far in advance, but Games Day has been at the end of September for the past 25 years, so it seemed a sensible decision at the time. Next year I probably won't book the leave and wait for a confirmed date, and if I can't get the time to go, so be it. But that all depends on what Warhammer Fest is like I guess, if its worth going back at all. I remain hopeful.

Feedback from me, not that busy considering it was GD, Warhammer GD cabinets more than half empty, very mixed standard.

Sales area was well organised and large. In fact the venue was great for the amount of people who attended with plenty of space, good food, no massive queues.

Of course it was!

One can infer a lot about the state of GM from the last couple of years though. Couldn't fill a smaller venue last year, moved to another, I assume, smaller venue this year, still selling tickets on the door when they'd sell out weeks in advance historically.

Shame.

Strategy currently seems to be to concentrate on a core loyal fan base without growing the market, and making the product harder to obtain. Basically the reverse of most businesses. I would have liked to check ths event out but the cost, and the likely quality, was prohibitive. So far all the feedback I have read was that this was essentially propped up by Forgeworld, again.
