Let us know how it goes Loki.
I've just branched out into Infinity with their new starter but also have the Relic Hunters box set waiting to be painted, I haven't got round to picking up the rules yet.

The downloadable rules are going down soon (b/c the printed cards are going to be at gencon), so you might want to grab those quickly unless you're not planning on starting immediately.

Didn't end up playing Malifaux. I owed my nephew a game of Infinity, and as usual after that game I was mentally exhausted at the end. I must have pre-exhausted myself, because I even forgot to bring my Malifaux stuff.
But we're having a game probably next weekend. I expanded my crew with the Nephilim box. Holy crap those Young Nephilim are great models. The one holding the head was a pain in the ass to build, but the end result is super characterful.
The Mature Nephilim is another story. The join seam around the body is very noticeable. Either I got too enthusiastic cleaning the edges before building it, or isn't not well cut on the mold. It also had the most noticeable mold lines I'd seen on a Malifaux plastic so far, even after seeing my brothers Hired Swords and The Thunder sets. I'm going to have to do a lot of liquid greenstuffing to fill the join seam in.
But man is it a nice model. Looks absolutely terrifyingly brutal. Its special melee actions really suit the model. Tear in half? Oh yes.

Well, if you're feeling up for it, this list version of a Som'er Crew would let you summon up to 3 more gremlins in a turn (you could do piglets too).
EDIT: Drop the Skeeters for 2 more Gremlins.

While the list shown above is an extreme example I would personally only take 4-6 bayou gremlins with som'er because i know i'd be summoning more in the game. Then i would spend the rest of the soulstones on beaters and support minis such as:
Lenny
War Pig
Slop Haulers
Gracie or Old Major
Burt Jebsen
Rami Lacroix (who doesn't love a gremlin sniper with a pig counter-weight on his gun???)
etc
I'd also take can o' beans on som'er to get some more utility out of the skeeters.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it. |

Had a blast painting my crew this weekend. Got all three Terror Tots done.
Also made a start on the Cherub and primed Barbaros. Hopefully I can even get Lilith finished before my brother and I have our first game. That will be a first for me - a fully painted force for a first game.

All right, first game down. After a confusing ten minutes trying to figure out why Cast abilities had Ca, Tn and Rst values, we got into it. Lilith starter vs Hired Swords starter. First up, I flat out did a dumb thing first turn and Transfixing Gazed Viktoria of Ashes into combat with Lilith. I had good intentions! I wanted to lure her into Living Blade range, and I had a Terror Tot there, so it would trigger Pounce, and get two automatic MI attacks against her. Problem was, I rolled pitifully for Liliths Living Blade, and it turned out I misread the Tots engangement range and he wasn't close enough to Pounce! So Lilith got absolutely butchered by Viktoria on her next activation. I also drew terribly for the whole game. Talk about dice not going your way, this time cards! I basically had to cheat every flip that actually won. I still managed 4 VP's, and I think my brother had 3, but we weren't really counting at the end because it was late and we were just happy we'd learned the game by the end. We were playing Squatters Rights, and I ended two turns with two markers. My Schemes were Protect Territory and Make Them Suffer, which really feel like they aren't geared for Lilith. Protect Territory requires my guys to camp, and Nephilim seem bad at that, and Make them Suffer forces engagements, and the tougher Hired Sword units just outclassed me in melee. Barbaros spent 3 turns wailing on Taelor before bringing her down, and also smacked down a Ronin. I also forgot some stuff that would have changed the game. I totally forgot about Black Blood, for one. So many wounds taken that would have caused wounds back. I didn't notice the Cherubs Chain Activation skill until it died, and it was in place to take advantage of it several times. But wow, what a fun game. I was expecting Infinity with swords but got a completely unique game experience. I was initially worried that the 3x3 game area would cause units to just evaporate, the way units do in Infinity, but the combats the unfold due to suit triggers and such made for a really dynamic melee game. So glad I grabbed Dreamer and the Whiskey Golem, with plans to grab Ophelias starter. Definitely a game to play alongside Infinity.

Glad to hear you like it, is an excellent game.
It's worth sitting down with your stat cards at some point and learning the abilities and triggers, it will mean you don't miss stuff as much later on.

Yeah that's a good idea for both of us. I was reading over the Ronin rules, and he never once used Flurry or their Collier Pistols, and had ample opportunity to do so.
If I read over Lilith and the Cherubs abilities, instead of being stupid and luring Viktoria of Ashes into melee I should have first moved the Cherub up and shot her, then moved Lilith up and Rooted her, then chain activated the Cherub to shoot her again. Then moved a Tot to claim the nearby Squat token, and then chain activated the Cherub again for another shot.
There's a lot of depth to this game. I'm really impressed.

Unless there's a special rule I'm forgetting about, you normally can't chain to reactivate a model.
Also, yeah, Malifaux has a ton of depth. While I loved some of the old 1st edition rules, I don't understand people who quit because the game was "too dumbed down."

Cherub has a rule that says if a friendly model ends it's activation within, I think, 6" of it, the Cherub immediately activates again. Unless I'm reading that wrong.

I'm with you... They clearly took some (arguably unnecessary) complexity out of the game going from M1E to M2E, but I honestly don't think the game suffered. They cleaned up some broken rules and made the overall game much more approachable. Plus you have some additional options to customize your crew.
The game still has a pretty steep learning curve, with all the tactical complexity you could really want, but it's a game that has some more room to grow its base.

NOTE: This if from Gmort's Chaotica blog and Wyrd approves his posting of these things through his unboxings.
How Companion works is if you have any friendly model end it's activation within 6 inches of the Cherub, then immediately after you've finished that activation, you may activate the Cherub if it hasn't been activated yet this turn.

Aha, so it's basically letting you immediately activate the Cherub instead of your opponent activating a model in between. Not as useful as I thought, but definitely handy.

It would be way too powerful otherwise. Other models (like most of the ortegas have companion) so you would be multi activating a ton. So yeah companion (and the reverse) accomplice just allow for an out of sequence activation.

Yep, Reactivate is very specific as to when it is handed out. But Companion is incredibly nifty for swift tactics (one of the main reasons the Ortegas are so mobile and why they were incredibly powerful in previous editions). My favorite use is with the Governor's proxy (The Judge took damage? Activate him, walk him back, have him toss an action to somebody, then have the Governor's Proxy activate right after and heal him before your opponent gets to strike. It's great due to Hard to Kill).

Yeah on further reflection I can see how activating a model more than once would be very powerful. I can certainly see uses with the Cherub immediately activating and skipping an opponents activation.

Alright, I've wound up with Pandora, and Dreamer is on the way from Gencon with Miss Ery.
Regarding Pandora first, I'm assuming much of the units that synergise well with her are in wave 2? Things like the Widow Weaver, Insidious Madness, Iggy, etc all seem to be there, and not much extra in wave 1 really seems to go with her (aside from Terror Tots to run schemes).
Do we know much about when we'll be getting more from wave 2? I really like Iggys rules, and running all 3 orphans with Pandora seems like fun. If it's going to be a while for the plastic version, I might just go with the metal.
