So I am looking to upgrade the Processor for my PC, last time I did this it was a disaster, the people at MicroCenter are vastly inferior to those at Frys and the whole experience was a nightmare. Now, there are all these cool games I want to play before the summer ends and a lot of the issues I am running into are from my processor. It is simply too old.

At the moment I am using an:

AMD Phenom II X2 560 Processor, 3300mhz 2 Core
Msi 870A G54 Motherboard
8 GB Corsair Dominator Ram, no real issues here

Last upgrade the processor they gave me didn't work with the motherboard, had to buy another one but the ram didn't work with that and it fried the old one. Went back to old motherboard and processor.

What make/model of graphics card do you have? Replacing that can work wonders. Also worthwhile making sure you have a suitably rated PSU...I've been caught out with that before

I have one of the newer Nvidia ones, can't recall off the top of my head.

Was using canirunit.com to see if I could run the games fine and every game shows processor as obsolete.

Everything looks just fine.
8 GB RAM is plenty. Your CPU should be good enough for the latest games. If you want to upgrade, stay away from the A-something (FM1/2 sockets) CPUs. The FX-something are a bit of a gamble (AM3+ socket, may or may not be fully compatible with your motherboard).
If you really want to upgrade your CPU, stick to the Athlons/Phenoms II (AM3 socket) and you should be fine. But even a X4 would probably be overkill.

Just make sure you have at last a mid-end GPU, like a GeForce 660/760.
