Hi guys
Gonna start the Alphas soon, and I'm still confuse on what armour mark to choose. There's the Mark 4 and Mark 6.
In the book 3,Extermination the alphas are on mark 6 for the majority of the picture shot.
But on the cover of Sedition's gate, the Alphas are on mark 4 in the majority.

Please give your thought on this matter.

Thanks!

All legions had all marks of armor, as well as dozens and dozens of other, either local classes of armor, or various forge prototypes. When it comes to the legions, there are very, very few limitations, and none at all when it comes to armor.

The Alpha Legion was known for having MKV and MKVI power armour - before they were issued or even finished.

MkV wasn't ever officially issued, it was just the name they gave generally to armour during the Heresy that was repaired in a rush and made of whatever armour they could scavenge and make use of.

But yeah AL had MkVI when only the Raven Guard were meant to, but they would also have used other marks. When I do my AL I think I'm gonna do all MkIV and MkVI though, I think it suits them better

So sayeth a single Black Library author who decided to take a long established bit of fluff and kick it in the teeth for no good reason. This little attempted retcon seems to have been ignored by the rest of the GW machine however as the 'new' marine codex clearly shows the 'standard' Mk5 design with its distinctive knees, torso and helmet, the same design as is still sold by Forge World.
