Greetings, dakkadakka. I was wondering how exactly to do random wound allocation, specifically for an exploding vehicle and varying armour saves. I had a situation earlier today where I put a Mega Armoured Warboss in a Battlewagon with Lootas. When the Wagon blew up I started duping all the wounds onto my Warbosses 2+ save. My opponent called foul so I looked up the exact wording. In the BRB it says that for random wound allocation I should randomally pick a model and start putting wounds on that model. How exactly does GW intend that to be done? Should I just close my eyes and go "eeny meeny miny moe" and point at a model? When I've done this strategy strategy before my opponents had no problem as long as I put all wounds on the Warboss, including Look Out, Sir! rolls.

tl:dr: Did I cheat when I put all Explode! wounds on my Mega Armoured Warboss?

Yes it was against the rules to put all Explode! wounds on my Mega Armoured Warboss if he was not randomly selected.

As for how to do this, assign each model a number on a D6 and roll a die to see who takes the wounds first.

Oddly enough, the 'Randomising' section under General Principles near the front of the rulebook has your answer.

A lot of people in my area are just rolling a scatter d6 near the unit in question. The model in the unit furthest away in the direction the scatter arrows point is the one that suffers the effects. Might not be correct, but its fast and keeps the game going...

I mean cmon lets face it theres already enough random dice rolling so just do one. Works great for Perils on Brotherhood of Psykers units.

Oh cool! I see it on page 11. Thanks a bunch, this helps a lot.

It gets a bit hairy when you have to randomly allocate amongst larger groups, so it pays to have a D10 and/or a D20 in your dice bag for such occasions.
