I am getting some Killa kans and deff dreds because a guy who needs money is selling orks and I was wondering about good tactics with the walkers and what I should give them, also what other units I should run with them in the same army that would work well most games are 1000-1500 pts

Note that I have not played the new orks but did play orks in 4th ed.

If the new is like the old kans are great with grotzookas and heavy flamers/big shootas, I'm not a fan of deffdreads simply because lascannons and other AT is everywhere and all it takes is one lucky hit.

Kans have had some changes. They no longer have DCCWs, so their attacks are now at S7 AP2. Also, the kans now have to take morale checks if Deff Dreads are not in proximity.

If you like running walkers, the Dread Mob list from IA8 is available for download at Forgeworld. It's got some interesting options, if nothing else.

Hmm and so I should give them grotzookas and big shootas? And should I run them in herds or in 1 man squads

Grotzooka or Rokkit work well.
Groups of 5 ideally.

Note that kanz have become worse in every aspect other than possibility to be taken in 6-s. They're now weaker, more expensive and can shake themselves from time to time if they loose models. 2 HP and av11 is still not that great. Playable but worse than mediocre if you ask me. Deffdreads on the other hand got a bit cheaper and got +1 attack for free.

I love the Deff Dread model. And i want to buy and use one just for that fact alone. I keep hearing that unless your a full mechanized army.. any armor isnt worth it..? I just like the fact of sprinkling in some armor in with da boyz. armor 12 with 3 HP and a cheap mek behind him and/or grot riggers to do some repairs doesnt sound all that bad to me. Although I rarely get the opportunity to play and i have been theory-hammer 40k at this point.

If you "sprinkle armor" in amongst the boyz, you are accomplishing two things.

You're making enemy anti-armor efficient by giving them something to shoot at. That lascannon dev squad doesn't want to kill 2-3 boyz a turn, they want to kill a vehicle a turn.

You're giving enemy anti-armor the opportunity to kill boyz AND armor at the same time. That lascannon dev squad causes your dread to explode, taking 4 boyz with it for free. If you have a mek next to it to, they get even more points for their buck.

EDIT: Dreads are great, if you go full-bore with them (and kanz, and a naught or two). In lower points games, say 1000 or even 1500, dreads get better and better. Three dreads in a 1000 point game is going to be scary as hell and won't break the bank points wise.

Unless you're heavy on walkers, they won't work as front-pushers. They'll just die. But when they can avoid some anti-tank and stick to cover and not risk killing boyz in explosion or haulting them by being immobilized or wrecked, they're fine.

If you have the models and absolutely want to field them - do it. They can be used on the flanks supporting a footslogging list.
