Which type of Tyranid list do you think is more effective, gaunt swarm or nidzilla?

Still haven't bought any miniatures.

Personally, I've had more success with nidzilla. Some swarm is good (OS Tervigons are really good) but I lean heavily towards MCs.

I play a kind of hybrid devil gaunt swarm list backed up by strangler warriors. Load's of dakka, can blow any infantry off the table.
I don't have enough TMC to go crazy with them yet. Bodies are key for me.

I play what I call "Horrors of the Hive!" I use a swarm army, backed by key Big Bugs, who handle specific roles...so a coupla Winged Tyrants, a Tyranofex (delete enemy Troops, be a bullet magnet) a Carnifex or two (Smash stuff, and spray Brain Leeches) and a Mawloc or two (eat stuff, and freak out the enemy)...it works for me.

The will of the hive is always the same: HUNGER

I like making a list that has 30 t 6 wounds and enough bodies to overwhelm my opponent by using 2 tervigons and a formation that allows 3 seperate units of termagants instead of 1 large blob.

I go all swarmy with 0 MC.
That is a casual gaming setup though, you have too few AV. Some MCs are needed for competitive play.

Huh? that really makes not since. There is something missing in that statement.

Agreed. I run swarm with a few MC (tyrant and fexs) to handle the muscle jobs.

I tend to run a mixed force with a handful of monstrous creatures (generally 4-5), a few mid-sized bugs (a brood or two of warriors, venoms) and the rest gribblies. Any attempts to run a 'nidzilla sort of list on my part have ended very badly... I have yet to win a game of 7th with less than 70 bodies at the start of a match (1500 points), just too much S6-S7 flying around.

I really enjoy playing between Swams and Nidzilla. That being all the mid sized bugs, Warriors, Lictors, Zoans, Biovores, etc.

All those 40mm bases give me the feel that this is kind of like a Tyranid Terminator list

6000 - Hive Fleet Limax
4000 - Sons of Horus
5500 - Ultramarine's
1000 - Blood Raven's
3000 - Skaven

Mostly Swarm, but that Swarm is always supported by selected synapse/support units

I have 6 monstrous creatures in my list but, I start the game with 60 gants on the table. The list has 2 tervigons so the number of gants increases so it has a swarm feel to it while still having other monstrous creatures, basically both. I hope this helps.
