Well painted though the carapace colors look different.

I always felt tyranids were more organic and the carapace and skin never looked like that the way gw painted it. Wanted to get a different approach.

Oh no i meant the carapace between the hyaridrul (however it spelled) and the plastic kits.

Not much interest in Tyranids these days I guess lol.

You've got some smooth layering in there. Airbrush? Have you thought about more highlights on the carapace? Just to make them 'pop' a little?

The highlights did not show with the current camera i have unfortunatley. They are highlighted by utilizing a black base and white under lays with violet over layed on top of the white and black. It gives it a great sense of natural highlighting and depth.

All done by airbrush yes, I will not be painting my monsters without one as my technique doesn't play out so well with a standard brush. Currently i utilize a Patriot 105 airbrush.

Well... Neither of them look like Leviathan per se, they're too off-colored, but even though I never thought the way Gray did about the nids, I can certainly appreciate it with that in mind, it does look more realistic.

The real critique I have is that they don't match each other. The chitin on the flyer looks smooth, while the Exocrine/Haruspex both look gaudy with that flat bright color. Skin looks fine all around, though.

Yeah, the Harridan looks infinitely better than the other two and it might be the lighting, camera or whatever. I'd suggest taking them all outside for some natural light. But I don't look at these and think 'Leviathan'. They look more like purple Kraken really. A halfway between the old and the new.

My next project.



The lighting is just bad with the highlights on the Exo and Haruspex. They are painted the exact same way utilizing the same highlights as the Harridan. The picture did not turn out.

I will just have to retake the pictures and hope for better quality lol.

Well done on the MCs. I know how you feel looking at all those points to paint up. I have about 350 models waiting for something more than black spray paint. Emperor help me...

Ya it can get overwhelming at times. I have just been stripping, priming, and re painting each bug one at a time. I have started with my big ones first and will get to the little ones probably 10 at a time.
