I'm working on a Mentors paint scheme for my marines. I really like the white/green combo!

I've decided to make them a 3rd company, which is denoted in their colors by a red stripe on their green helmet instead of on the shoulder pads like other marine chapters.

Where I'm bumping into trouble is sergeants and veterans. Sergeants helmets are normally all red... so how do I put a red stripe on a red helmet? Or does the sergeant status just trump that so you stick with a plain red helmet? In the case of veterans, the helmet would be all white and have a red stripe... but what about a veteran sergeant? All white with a red stripe would be the normal vet serg setup...

Does anyone have any insight on this?

Easy fix. Red laurel on both sides of the helmet instead of the all red helmet

Another option would be a red or silver skull on the helmet.

For what it's worth, the Mentors using a helmet stripe to denote company originates from 2nd edition's codex Ultramarines, the example Mentor therein was 1st company but had a green helmet with white helmet stripe, he had a codex tactical marking on his shoulderpad and terminator honours in black on his right kneepad.

Way back when, a Mentor squad had each Marine as a champion (no longer applicable in the current rules) and each Marine shared equal rank, the squad had no designated Sergeant and any of the ten could be nominated the leader; or two leaders if split into combat squads.
