Hey guys, me and my friend played a game last night where we swapped armies. The reason being is that he thinks the new Ork Codex is bad, and he's really been thinking of getting out of the game. So I let him use my Necrons, and I used his Orks, to show him some different things he doesn't use or things that might be more effective against my standard lists. We swapped codexes for a few days and made 1500 point lists.

For those of you that have seen my other Battle report video, it's the same Ork guy. I was really trying to get him to appreciate the new codex a lot more.

Forgot to link the video once we got it up. Here it is:

So, this is the list of Necrons he put together:

Overlord - Every upgrade, including Barge (FNP as WL trait)
-Lord - Every upgrade
- Veiltek - both upgrades

10 Tesla Immortals

9 Warriors in a Ghost Ark

10 Deathmarks

Triarch Stalker with TL HGC

Doom Scythe

Now here's the list I made using only the Ork models he has. I did proxy his boyz as Tankbusta though, but he had the models to proxy them.

Warboss - CBB, Eavy Armor, Attack Squig, Da Finkin Cap (+1 S and Infiltrate WL traits), and Headwoppas Big Choppa
Big Mek - KFF, Kill Saw, CBB, Eavy Armor, Grot Oilers
Painboy

3x 10-man Boyz units
-Eavy Armor, 1x Rokkit Launcha each

6x Nobs
- Big Choppas, Waagh Banner, Eavy armor

12x Tankbustas
- Boss Nob w/ Power Klaw
- Trukk
- Red Paint job, Wrecking ball, Reinforced Ram, Rokkit Launcha

2x 8-man Loota units

Battlewagon
- Killkannon, 4x Big Shootas, Reinforced Ram, Boarding plank

Turn 1:

Hammer and Anvil, Kill points

Nercons:
He deployed first and went first. Lord was with Immortals, cryptek was with Warriors in the ark. He moved everything up the board rather fast. Triarch Stalker got a lucky hit against the Trukk, exploded it, killed 3 tankbustas and Pinned them. Glanced a hull point off the battlewagon

Orks:
One squad of infiltrating Boz were at his board edge behind the Triarch Stalker. Battlewagon with Nobz and Warboss posse moved back a bit, Lootas shot, made his Ghost ark jink, and stripped hull point off the Stalker. Rokkit launcha into the butt of the Stalker, missed. Killcannon into the immortals that were moving up, missed completely. Did a wound with the big shootas, but saved it. Nothing else happened.

Turn 2:

Necrons:
Moved everything up, got within rapid-fire range of the Battlewagon. Both the Deathmarks and the Doom scythe came in. Deathmarks aimed for behind my lines, but scattered off the board and he rolled a 1, so they died. He was rather pissed. Doom scythe shot at the Battlewagon and lootas, killed all but 2 lootas, and got a pin result against the Battlewagon, failed the invlun. He did immobilize it (Which I actually ended up forgetting, but it didn't do anything the rest of the game anyway). Also shot gauss at it, managed to take it down to 1 hull point. Triarch Stalker fired at it, got a Pin against front armor, but I made the invuln. His overlord was in some terrain very close to my guys, and he left him there.

Orks:
2 Boyz units Outflanked (Since they had infiltrate), only one unit came in, but came in right next to his triarch stalker. Guys disembarked from the battlewagon right next to his overlord, tank bustas moved up a tad bit, guys on his board edge kept moving towards the fight. Shot two rokkits from both boy squads at the stalker, actually hit with both and wrecked it. Lootas shot at the Doom scythe, passed his jink saves, but did force him to jink. Not that it matted, Tankbustas snap fired at the flyer, and he failed 3 jinks and it crashed. Come the assault phase, Warboss's posse charged the Overlord on a barge, got HoW, not that it mattered. He overwatched with a Tacyon Arrow, missed. Put the bigmek and warboss not in base contact to avoid MSS, but one nob attacked the unit and chipped a wound off of one. Then Warboss attacked the barge, chipped a hull point off. Then nobz went, stripped about 3 more hull points off and killed it. He then failed his reanimate roll. (Apparently, the Command barge isn't as OP as he originally thought).

Turn 3:

Necrons:
Tesla immortals moved up to the warboss squad, Ghost ark stayed right next to them as well. Tesla fired into them, chipped a wound off a nob, then ghost ark with passengers and Abyssal staff opened up into them. Finished off the 2 nobs and wounded 1. Then immortals charged in, nothing happened in overwatch. He challenged, I declined, so warboss didn't get to attack. I managed to kill 3 immortals, he did one wound to a nob. Passed his leadership. 1 immortal stood back up. Ongoing combat.

Orks:
Tankbustas moved up to the Ghost Ark, rest of the boyz started moving towards the rest of the fight, the other outflanking squad didn't come in. Called Waagh, Tankbustas ran and charged the Ghost Ark, Nob alone exploded it, killed 2 warriors inside, and kill an immortal, 4 tankbustas, and wounded a nob. On to combat, same thing as before. He delt 2 woulds total, I killed 3 immortals. At this point I had 1 nob left, a painboy with a wound, and the bigmek and warboss. He passed his leadership again, 1 immortal stood back up.

Turn 4:

Necrons:
Warriors and Cryptek fired into what was left of the tankbustas, killed them all. Same thing happened in combat, I ended up winning by 1, he failed his leadership with a roll of a 10. I over ran the unit, and he conceded.

Sadly, he still thinks Orks are terrible, and blamed his loss on the Deathmarks dying and the barge not being as powerful as he thought. Very unfortunate, but I had fun playing Orks for the first time. He migh end up quitting soon anyway, which is sad to hear, but I might buy his Orks off of him if he does.

Let me know what you guys think, leave feedback or anything. We'll have a video up about this game eventually on our youtube channel, the Adequate Wargamers.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, the only reason I've done so well with it was because I don't send it at good melee units, with Kill Saws...lol

But yeah, I've actually thought about picking up Orks, since honestly, I like a lot of things in their new book.

New Orks are amazing, I have no idea what that Ork list was doing but he played like an assaulting space marine army. What are his usual lists because the train wreck of my Orks are constantly winning. I love it.

BB's Trading Emporium - 6 Positive Trades

1850 0 - 0 - 0
Marines 1850 1 - 0 - 0
210 points Trolls 9 - 0 - 3

Wait, the Ork list in this batrep? And he usually fields lootas, Meganobs, a Warboss in mega armor, and a bunch of boys, and he hasn't had much luck with it.

Unfortunately that Ork List was illegal. Ork HQ choices with access to the Gifts of Gork and Mork are only able to take one of them rather than any. It is seen in the Ork Wargear List entry where they put the points for each of the relics, since it explicitly says "A model can take one of the following". So no Finkin' Cap + Eadwompa's Killchoppa sadly.

Huh, I overlooked that. Whoops. Sorry! Oh well, it was my first and probably last time playing Orks.

The guy just sounds butt hurt.
(The Deathmarks wouldn't have saved him, that Necron list he came up with was awful. He couldn't look online for inspiration or something?)

Well, if he did that, I would say why can't he do the same for Orks if he's having trouble?

Orks are a blast. I have both orks and Necrons and thoroughly enjoy both. Likely though the "this new codex is horrible" excuse is simply justification for him wanting to leave the game. Orks play like orks always have, lots of bodies and usually 4x that many dice.

I hope you have other opponents to play against. And i hope you get a good deal on his army if he sell is lol

Lol, yeah we have a huge friend group, which is why he got into it in the first place. But if he leaves, I dunno. We'll see what happens.

Sadly he did decide to sell them, but my girlfriend wants to buy them, as she wants to try out orks. Which, honestly, I've love to see her play them.

Very cool, krodarklorr.
I also started with Necrons, and have picked up Orks. I have about 3,500 points of Necrons painted and about 2000 points of orks in various stages. As you might guess, that gets to be a lot of orks very quickly. It's almost like they are gorwing like a fungus.
I see orks as a very fun army... and one that can win events at the local level. I can't wait to get my painting space back...

Something else to point out: The tankbusta nob cannot buy a PK - might be an overlook from GW, but it doesn't have close combat weapon to trade away. Not a big issue usually though.

Otherwise, nice report. I think your mate might simply not be good at strategic thinking in general and thus not enjoying himself, some people simply are like that.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Yeah, even with a lot of the "fun" stuff gone so to speak, they're still the same army, and are still really fun/random. I was even thinking of starting up an Ork army myself, but I have so many armies right now I'm working on between systems that I can't effectively do it. Me and my girlfriend might just share the Ork army that she picks up.

What fun stuff?

The only things I can think off are curse of the squig and the kareen! part of the ramshackle rule.

Everything else and more is readily available from the new codex.

Yeah, that does suck they lost those. By my friend from the batrep disliked how they changed the SAG, even though it's pretty much the same, if not better.

Seems like grasping straws for finding something to dislike. The only things that changed about the SAG was the 1,1 result no longer making you lose the game (what was fun about that?) and the 6,6 result now jumping around the battlefield and randomly killing stuff, which is a lot more fun that "remove those". All other results are exactly the same.

I think some people are just trapped in their "everything sucks!" mentality that they fail to actually open their eyes and create their own opinion about the ork codex. 90% of all people hating on the new ork codex are simply echoing incorrect stuff they read on the internet. This is one of them.
