Played my regular Tau opponent the other night at 1250 PTs and I was massively surprised to see two squads of stealths being unpacked rather than the normal Crisis spam.

Both three man, two bursts and a fusion with target lock.

Ok he got some lucky rolling when he needed it but squad one came on turn 2, melta exploded a rhino and wiped out most of my Imperial Guard ally squad holding my backfield objective (admittedly then all getting fragged in the open by my 5 man marine squad in my next turn) the second came on turn 4, finished the rest of my guard and tool they position in a ruin (getting a 2+ save for themselves) and layed a marker light on the back of my other surviving rhinos rear armour allowing a seeker missile to come in and finish it off. That got them another objective and a line breaker to tie the game as I had nothing close enough to get back and under the fire I could spend on them their 2+ held.

I know the Tau codex has a very busy elites section with arguably some of the best units in the entire game but I have to wonder why I see so few of these teams, deep striking melta shots with 8 burst shots on top plus a marker light? 115 PTs? Dangerous men!

That's 100% the reason you don't see more Stealth Suits - they're competing against two of the very best units in 40k. They're a great "toolbox unit", what with the jetpack, 2+ saves in terrain, infiltrate, etc. But Crisis Suits can be specialized to a much greater degree, and can almost always do the same job better.

Stealth Suits have the same issue as Sniper Drones - theyre good, but the competition for the slot is vastly superior. Stealth Suits to me would make sense in FA but i think it would be a little....unfair to let us bring a riptide, 2 crisis bombs, and 3 full stealth teams in the same single CAD lol.

Dont think ive ever seen anyone deep strike a stealth suit before. Most common tactic i see with them is a trio with 2 marker drones and a shas'vre with markerlight/tlock and one of the random guys using a drone controller. Three BS3 markerlights with 2+ cover and a decent amount of short range firepower case you get close, and its usually sitting in the middle of the board so it can mark the units in the backfield where normally markerlights are a few inches short.

EDIT: Actually on that FA note, im kinda surprised we dont have a single suit in the FA slot....even one that only has a 4+ armor or something but moves hella fast...possibly even has Jink lol.
